Commercial Description:
It's nice to be able to finally brew some beer without restrictions on it. we came from Colorado where we could brew or try anything. We've been waiting 7 years to make a stout and we harnessed all that frustration into this batch of beer.

We didn't get caught up in the parameters of a specific style we just brewed a big fat hoppy beautiful beer. The timing of the law change couldn't have been better for us, because it has taken until this summer for us to get set up in our new brewery. We finally have some capacity to experiment with some new style. This could lead into a seasonal offering from us in the future. For now we're just glad we can satisfy the demands of the folks who have been on us since day 1 to make a stout.

Malt: 70/80 crystal malt, chocolate malt, black malt, roasted malt

Hops: Centennial, Willamette and cascade - on the dry hop!

From bottle : Pours very dark black, with a thin brown head that forms, and only last a few minutes. It leaves lots of bubbles around the edges along with some foam. Decent lacing. Nose is roasted malts, earthyness, some funk, and hops. Weird smells for a Impy Stout. Roasted flavor, with the chocolate coming through in the end. Some alcohol present as well. There is something else i can pin point, but it is just throwing this beer off. Thin body for a stout, and finishes kinda watery. Not very impressed with this.

Another winner from Sweetwater! Pours a rich chocolate brown with a thick, brown, persistent head. Aroma has strong burnt coffee component and also a curious "rubbery" hint, like a car tire. Flavor is like a good mocha - coffee dominates the taste, and there are ribbons of smoke and chocolate. Aftertaste has just a hint of unsweetened chocolate, and there is a little hoppy bitterness as well. It feels just a tad thinner than most stouts, but still does not disappoint.

Thanks to ncvbc for this great extra Best by 12/31/08 Bottle poured into my sniffer produced a good fingers worth of tan head that turns into a ring of lace around the glass on top of a jet black body Aromas of toasted malts, coffee and chocolate with a slight funk (I’m glad I am not the only one to pick it up I though my nose was going) Earthiness, sweat malts, light chocolate, molasses good balance of flavors The only real complaint is it is a little thin for a stout Good drinkability I could drink a few of these a night easy. A good brew and I will seek this one out again

Almost black with a modest, shortlived head. Decent lacing. Wierd, it smells like a very old English Barleywine w/ sweet malts and a tart hop. Full nectar weight with good carbonation producing a cotton fiber feel. Flavorwise, this one sipps a little differently exposing it’s inherent high roast count and fat chocolate malt body yet delivering a very unique niche so to speak. I get some of that aged grapefruit citrus pulp hop to a mild degree. The finish is bittered nicely to balance the beast. Overall: it’s high carbonation swings in the wrong direction, mildly sweet with a unique citrusy roast component. Alcohol is well hidden. I think this is my first non-classic scoring for an IS.

Bottle from ucusty. Pours black with a tan head. Smells like a combo of hops and malt. Tastes like a combo of complex malts and hops with a nice finish. Good beer.

As soon as I open this sucker I get a whiff of vegetable soup. What the hell? It pours an oily black with a tan head. Definitely a charcoal aroma on top of that soup smell. The flavor allows for a touch of chocolate and coffee while being dominated by smoke and mineral bitterness. Sweet at the finish. Drinkable.

12 oz, bb 12/31/08. Opaque black with a small but persistent head leaving nice frosting on the glass. Aroma is chocolate coffee with citrus. Flavor is overpowering orange-citrus with some chocolate, char, and coffee trying to peek through at the end. Heavy body is smooth and has some tingle on the dry finish. Quality brew, but way overhopped for my Impy tastes.

Lovely. This delicious, dark, hoppy beer just might lead to a situation tonight.
