Commercial Description:
It's nice to be able to finally brew some beer without restrictions on it. we came from Colorado where we could brew or try anything. We've been waiting 7 years to make a stout and we harnessed all that frustration into this batch of beer.

We didn't get caught up in the parameters of a specific style we just brewed a big fat hoppy beautiful beer. The timing of the law change couldn't have been better for us, because it has taken until this summer for us to get set up in our new brewery. We finally have some capacity to experiment with some new style. This could lead into a seasonal offering from us in the future. For now we're just glad we can satisfy the demands of the folks who have been on us since day 1 to make a stout.

Malt: 70/80 crystal malt, chocolate malt, black malt, roasted malt

Hops: Centennial, Willamette and cascade - on the dry hop!

sampled with the phoenix crew. 2008 flip top bottle 510/3000 supplied by sparky27... near black with a thin tan head and lots of spotty lacing. big whiff of citrus, stingy tangy hops... followed by chocolate, coffee, molasses, fruitiness and black raisins. light savory quality on the palate along with some fruity sweetness (but not sweet?). the flavor is heavy on the molasses and bitter dark chocolate until it warms a bit. then vanilla, coffee and ashy/astringency come out. rather tart finish with coffee and some light smokiness in the aftertaste. meh body but a creamy smooth mouth feel...

Bottle courtesy of ucusty, pours deep brown with finger thick, dark tan head. The nose is strongly fruity, chocolate, some pineapple, and roasted malt. The flavor is a bit less complex or full, but decent none the less with chocolate, coffee and a fairly strong influence of pineapple. Creamy mouthfeel as well.

08 bottle thanks to PharmicistRick, thanks man. Poured a thick black color with a moderate tan head that diminished to a layer and left some lacing. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate, moderate roast, and some chalk. Smooth, lightly sweet entry leads to a decent bittersweet chocolate with some light roast and undertones of fruit and a moderate chalky finish. Smooth, moderately full palate. Thanks again Rick, I appreciate it man!

1.0 L swingtop. Dark brown color with a very light head (for an Imperial Stout.) The head and color should be darker, hurting its score. Nose shows some dark fruit and dark chocolate hints, but it’s very light overall. Flavor is well balanced, quite hoppy with some citrus notes. Also, notes of cherry and blackberry, with some other hints of roast and chocolate. Not a complex beer, but it’s fairly enjoyable.

Sample at the Most Honorable SuperHappyFun Stout Tasting, thanks Dogbrick: I liked the old label better. Pours a very dark brown/black with a small and bubbly tan head. Aroma is chocolate malts, aquarium, and spicy hops. Moderately carbonated, yet smooth, this has a nice roastiness about it and an equally nice hop profile (wink).

Sample at the Most Honorable SuperHappyFun Stout Tasting. Bottle from Smoke Rise in Stone Mountain, GA. 2008 bottle (#683/3000). This beer pours black with a medium thin and foamy light tan head that has good retention. Rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, coffee and hops in the nose. Rich and smooth body with a roasted character and flavors of caramel malt, coffee and hops, plus a touch of chocolate. The finish is roasted malt and mocha with a lightly bitter hops aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Bottle in trade from Odeed and the artist formerly known as Degarth. Thanks!!
Pour dark oily black with a big lasting brown head. Smell is rich, roasty creamy coffee, oatmeal, and brown sugar. Nice. Taste is much thinner and pretty bubbly. Roasty with some cardboard like flavor. Very thin roasty flavor, especially compared to the smell. Somewhat dry, and a bit of a let down flavorwise. Just average at best overall.

6-5-08 bottle
Dense black pour with a huge enormous tan brown head with immediate webbed sticky lacing. Smell is big chocolate, coffee, oatmeal, and a touch of caramel. Flavor is bland. The first thing I noticed was the awful mouthfeel when the beer hit my tongue. It ruined the beer for me because I couldn’t notice anything else aside from the high carbonation and thin body. Flavor was fairly watery and the palate just made it that much worse.
