Lots of coriander, very spicy. Hard to get much more - a little pepper here and there. Nice wheaty tang, very drinkable, nice color (bright gold). A little cotton candy sweetness in the flavor. Aroma is slightly sweet and fruity. Thanks to GAManiac for the bottles.

You know the saying "my ____ went to _____ and all they got me was this stupid t-shirt"? well, thankfully in my case it usually goes a bit more like this: "my parents went to ____ and brought me back some beer." in this instance, my folks were in Georgia for one of dad’s car race events so they brought me back a 6 pack of Sweet Water Brewing Hummer ~ a White Ale. What can I say, my folks know we well. Sometimes too well.
Hummer pours a hazy orange with hints of milky white along the edges and definitely in the head. Speaking of which, there was a small head, but not as much as I would have expected. I swirled the last bit of beer in my bottle to gather as much of the yummy yeasts that had settled on the bottom into the last pour of my Hummer into her glass. Sweet sour yeasty explosion in the nose, and for a moment I even detected the aroma of fresh hard-boiled eggs (a first for me) and sour citrusy notes. I take a sip. A sour citrus and yeast explosion, almost enough to pucker me taste buds. Definitely a different interpretation of a white ale I haven’t ever tasted before. A bit more into Hummer and I get intense granny smith apples and cinnamon and coriander. Rather dry with a light body so that the overall sour profile doesn’t overwhelm. Brussels lace leaves a scattered trail along the sides of my glass.
Hummer is like a one-two punch, sour yeasts and citrus zing up front for the first encounter with sweet apples and wheat coming up right behind. Probably the most unique white ale I have had so far, but definitely good. I was initially caught a bit off guard, but with each quaff Hummer grows on me and I enjoy it more and more. As I work on finishing my Hummer, little flecks of yeast and wheat start to settle on the bottom much to my delight, readying me for that final quaff.
A great summer beer, Hummer would be excellent out on the boat deep-sea fishing or relaxing on our white sands enjoying the warm sun, ocean breeze, and crashing waves.

Bottle. Hazy pour typical of the style. Very esther-y with a nice citric finish. A nice beer in spite of it not being one of my favorite styles.

BB 8/27/08 bottle into tulip. Disappointing. Smells like a lager. Pours very slightly hazily clearish light golden color, with quickly fading white head - looks like a lager. Mostly what I taste is a prevalent maltiness, with very mild spice and citrus notes; very little flavor - tastes like a lager. Light to lightly moderate palate - like a lager. Wait, I thought this was a Belgian White Ale. Hmmm - maybe this is what they mean by Hummer.

Bottle, thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a cloudy yellow, white fizzy head. Aroma of lemon peel and faint malt. Flavor is semi-sweet, lemon peel, faint malt. Palate is light bodied, soft, with high carbonation. Overall a great summer beer....

Bottle. Pours a bright hazy yellow with a puffy one-finger head that hung around for a little while leaving very little lacing. The smell is very sweet with bananas, oranges and coriander. The wheat backbone is also very evident in the smell. The taste mirrors the smell and is a very sweet wheat backbone with banana and spices on top. Oranges are also present after the initial sweetness. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied but very crisp and dry in the finish with high carbonation. Drinkability is extremely high on this one and it’s a great summer beer.
