19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Jul 11, 2008 Growler(s) from Merrifield and Sterling. Drank in a somewhat spontaneous "stout comparison" one day. Pours an inky black with a pillowy head of khaki. Aromas are roasty with some coffee tones. Flavors are smooth smooth smooth. A touch sweet and sugary. Roasty and coffee again in the flavor. Finishes slick and gliding with a good oatmeal flair. A tasty one. dpjuart (555), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2008 Draft sample at Merrifield location. Pours black with khaki head. Nose is roast and caramel, slight coffee. Taste is coffee and roasted malts with hop bitterness. There’s a nice sweetness to it, maybe a touch of lactose. Rather moderate mouthfeel. Pretty decent offering. JamesD (151), Centreville, Virginia, USA Nov 16, 2007 A very good stout. The aroma is roasted, coffeeish, and a little oily. The flavor is creamy with hints of coffee and dark chocolate. It is also a fairly bitter and dry stout, which I really like a lot, it’s a good contrast to some of the more sweet English stouts. I like this alot, definitely try it if you’re in the Northern Virginia area and you like robust, dark beer. radagast83 (1042), Springfield, Virginia, USA May 3, 2007 On tap at Merifield location. Pours pitch black with dark tan head. Aroma is roasted malts with chocolates. Flavor is a bit dry, but soon becomes that of malts, bittersweet chocolate, and some oatmeal. It’s pretty creamy, and was very refereshing. CaptainCougar (4633), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 2, 2007 On tap at the Sterling location on 1/21/07: Pours a mostly opaque black with dark brown edges and a thin tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts with a touch of dark chocolate. Body starts dry and thin without much sweetness with a roastier bitter finish with some lingering dark chocolate notes. Fairly drinkable, but otherwise full.
