jeffc666 (1820), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 13, 2005 Dark copper with a frothy lasting manila head. The aroma is light caramel, peat, and some smoke. Fairly bland aroma. The flavor is bready, nutty, mildly sweet. Dry quick finish medium-light body. Quite drinkable, decent session beer. MilkmanDan (1937), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Mar 8, 2005 Mahogany colored, not much head. Nose lightly scotchy, some caramel and peat. Not huge flavor, smoky and a bit peaty, bit sweet at the end. Not too much going on. chris_o (4405), London, Greater London, England Jan 4, 2005 On tap at the Sterling location with The_Beer_God. Things didn’t get off to a great start when all the beers in the sampler were served in iced glasses. Fortunately, this had warmed up a bit by the time I got to it. Reddish tawny colour. Malt, caramel and butterscotch aroma. Palate is dominated by dry, slightly smoky, malt, with a slug of caramel again. Fairly low hop profile, as one might expect. Clean finish, with a touch of sweetness. Quite fresh tasting. Overall, a respectable effort, without being in any way outstanding.
hopscotch (4460), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Dec 20, 2004 On draft at the Sterling location. Crystal clear, copper ale with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Excellent retention. A blend of cumulus and cirrus lacework. Malty, soapy aroma with notes of cola and earth. The flavor is thin and leans toward the malty side with notes of caramel and toffee. Light-bodied with a barely creamy mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Short, crisp, clean finish. The_Beer_God (2829), Newport News, Virginia, USA Dec 3, 2004 Had this on draft at Sweetwater Tavern in Sterling on 11/21/04. Risty amber to near copper in color. Nose is dry malt with caramel, mild sweetness and really faint hops. Taste is malty with light alcohol and more caraeml notes. The hops are more evident here. Carbonated but smooth body. Finishes with fruit notes, light alcohol, rich malt, and light spice.
