nimbleprop (592), Washington, Washington DC, USA Aug 22, 2008 Sampled at Brew at the Zoo at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. 4oz sample poured a transparent dark, maple brown with a thin white head. Nose is alright, grainy, bready with a hint of chocolate. Flavor is similar, more fruits, breads and grains - the chocolate malts really come through on the flavor making it very sweet. Finish is flat and a little watery. I’m not a fan of lagers but I actually liked this. dpjuart (572), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2008 Draft sample at Merrifield location. Pours red/brown. Big malt nose, sweet caramel and chocolate with mild biscuit. Taste is very dunkel-esque (even though it’s a vienna), lots of chocolate and roast, some caramel with a nice, crisp and quiet finish. Tasty beer. argo0 (6229), Washington DC, USA Feb 25, 2006 Beige head atop a crystal clear copper body. Aroma is medium sweet, chocolate, some caramel, light nutty. Taste is medium sweet, chocolate, some lager yeast, nutty, light roast, caramel, faint smoke, grass. Light-medium body with a bit of stickiness, easy drinking. hopscotch (4578), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 13, 2003 This beer rocks!
Crystal clear mohogany lager with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Terrific lacework.
The nose is very rich and malty. Plenty of dark fruit and clover honey. Also, light molasses and alcohol in the aroma.
Tastes caramely, rich and roasty with a medium dose of alcohol in the flavor. Very well-balanced. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Mid-length, astringent finish! Wow! I've never given a vienna a score above 4.0... until now. This is the only one I've had that stands on it's own... instead of just being a good compliment to a bag of beef jerky or a Mexican meal. A winner!
