On tap, summits cumming. Half pint pour, draft. bright golden color. Very attractive cascade of bubbles rising to the thin white head. Classic belgian aroma. Yeasty dough. Fizzy mouthfeel. sweet malt, some straw. lots of hops. Spicy. Kinda strong, feel the burn. Overall, two words. duval clone. Tweeked and hopped. 13 dec 08.

Straw colour. Bright simcoe nose with lots of candyish notes. Bitter with bright hops, a sweeter middle and a high alcohol finish. Doesn’t quite come together.

Draught. Warm golden, clear with nice head and lacing. Sweet malt with hop overlay. Hops came out more at first and as it sits, the strength throws it off. A disjointed brew with sweet sitting in one pocket, floral and pine hop in another, and alcohol in the next without coming together.

Appearance: Hazed, yellow-gold body with a small, white head. Smell: Lightly sweetish nose chock full of citrus, pineapple, and wind-blown grass. The malts player a minor role in the aroma along with a faint waft of peppery alcohol in the background. Taste: Delicate, light pale maltiness with a pinch of sweet table sugar and a few careful drops of clover honey. This is proceeded by a synthesis of American hop flavors, particularly tropical citrus fruits and a grassy herbacceousness. Bold moderate bitterness. Tiny pinch of clove. Small peppery hints at the tail-end. Finishes dry, bitter, and a tad warming. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A solid, somewhat Americanized tripel. I look forward to trying more Dank Tank brews in the future, which seems to be Sweetwater’s answer to Terrapin’s Side Project series.

On tap in my basement...ain’t life grand, poured into a tulip. Pours a crystal clear gold with a huge three-finger fluffy white head that hangs on forever and leaves sheets of lacing. The aroma has lots of fruity hops with lemons, oranges and a little bit of grassy hops as well. Some Belgian yeast sweetness in the background with hints of spices as well. The taste also starts with some light lemony hops. Ever so slight bubblegum sweetness. Very crisp tasting overall and dry in the finish with a little pepper. This is a very drinkable tripel with a big hop profile. I’m really excited about the new Dank Tank experiment at Sweetwater and this is a very good start.

On tap at The Porter. Pours a deep, cloudy gold. The aroma is floral and perfumey. The flavor starts with malt sweetness and perfumey hop flavor. The beer is dry with lots of ester, including notes of licorice (a lot like a beer I made using Wyeast 3276 - Farmhouse Ale Yeast). The finish is perfumey and peppery with a firm, hoppy, bitterness. Mouthfeel is full but vigorously carbonated to give it lightness on the tongue. Overall, an interesting, bitter, Belgian-style ale.
