While its less potent than vodka it is such a heady style that it must have influenced their decision making process a bit. From Rasputin to Vladputin the country hasn’t been the same as when this was the tipple of choice. What better place to be sampling this Chilean Impy Stout than in my hotel room in Lima though? Having run the gauntlet of countless crazy taxi drivers in their Daewoo Tintos (must be some inverse proportionality about the masculinity of these caballeros to the size of their cars as they drive with cojones grandes) I needed the solace of the room and a beer like this. Very thick pour and significant head that does recede. Cafe negra y fuerte is the clear nose here and it is supported by the maltiness, burnt malt and molasses characters. Grat balance on the tongue and mouthfeel is huge. I love the warming ABV, even though an April day in Peru is not the best place to appreciate this sensation. The lingering aftertaste of the strong cafe is a treat. I agree that it is a beer that will benefit from ageing but as a drink now it is still a champion beer. Yeah, Kev, goodonyer sport. Done fine, played good.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 24, 2009 Bottled. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet and roasted malt, the latter lending it a bit of acidity. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, roasted malt, chocolate, and licorice, leading to a dry finish, where the alcohol bites the tongue. Thanks omhper for sharing. ketchepillar (480), Viña del Mar, Chile
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 23, 2009 Remarkably alcoholic for being 7.5%; it did settle down a fair amount. Some garbage in the aroma for sure. Great chocolate comes through deep in the finish. Lots of caramel-pretty good. Buggy (10), Århus c, Denmark

Sweetish roasted malt and alcohol in the aroma. Quite full-bodied with roasted malt and very sweet licorice accents. Alcoholic finish, but no real bitterness to be found. 200908 oh6gdx (8903), Vasa, Finland

Aroma is fruits, yeast, licorice and some alcohol. Flavour is licorice, alcohol, spices. A rather nice thing. Pleasantly balanced flavour. As it gets slightly warmer it gets quite much coffee in it. omhper (12244), Stockholm, Sweden

Aroma of chocolate, alcohol and licorice. Very sweet with vanilla and raspberries to go with the chocolate and licorice. The high sweetness bnurns and gets company of warming alcohol in the finish. Quite powerful, but the least well balanced beer from this fantastic brewer. KimJohansen (7125), Copenhagen V, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 27, 2008 Sampled at HotShotz Indy tasting May 24, 2008 - Aroma is dark malts, cocoa powder, brown sugar, molasses and subtle hops. Pours light black with a small head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is sticky and dry. Not "heavy" like most American imperial stouts, this one has a lot of flavor and is light enough for easy drinking.
