reakt (938), Greater London, England Apr 27, 2007 Updated: Sep 1, 2007bottled. Dark amber with the the usual ’t IJ unruly head - big, pillowy and rapidly swelling. Fruit, yeast and spice in the nose. Taste is yeasty with some caramel, fruit and rum. Pleasant fruity bitter finish. It’s good, but there’s something not quite right about it. gottalottaibu (242), charlotte, North Carolina, USA Apr 26, 2007 bottle. golden amber with lots of carbonation and a bubbly head. wonderful fruit aroma with a touch of spicy sourness. slight tart taste with some fizzy carbonation on the tongue. fairly bitter end with a light/medium mouthfeel. pubbe (493), Højbjerg, Denmark Apr 19, 2007 Bottle. Amber colour with orange hue. Beautifull off-white head of medium duration. It has a very powerful aroma of fruit and yeast. Nice acidity in the fruity aroma. Average finish - but where is the hops? goozen (1061), Leiden, Netherlands Apr 18, 2007 Bottle 0,33ltr: Great Amsterdam-Dubbel dark brown coloured with some fruity- raisin taste and well bitter ending. cchubb (73), Minneola, Florida, USA Apr 15, 2007 I was impressed with this Dutch version of a Belgian Dark Strong. It’s a little darker and not quite as strong, but the strong raisin and burned sugar aromas come up from the tan head and warm the nostrils. Oxidization is evident right up front. Every beer I have had from ’t IJ has been oxidized, so it has to be planned. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Apr 15, 2007 Bottle dated Sept 2002. Cloudy reddish brown, moderate head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is raisin, dark sugars, hint of chocolate, some spiced funk. Flavor brings this, medium to light body and slightly oxidized. Fairly tart, don’t know if that’s because of the age or not. Overall it just wasn’t that enjoyable. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Apr 9, 2007 Bottle: Deep rusty amber with visible proteins floating around, topped by a creamy, but fading off-white head. Somewhat tart aroma for a Dubbel. Nice Belgian character, with a plummy fruityness, apple skin, orange peel notes, dark caramel malt; appetizing. Creamy mouthfeel. The flavor has a light tartness upfront. Fruity, plummy notes, candied granny smith apples, light orange peel, musty wood-like notes, subtle roastyness, caramel malt, slightly oxidized, with a zingy, slightly spicy finish; along with subtle roasted toffee notes. A unique and intersting Dubbel. Fukito (604), Buenos Aires, Argentina Apr 5, 2007 Tap a T´Ij, march 07. Pretty nice, raisiny, spicy aroma with a fruity touch. Taste is spicy, malty and a somewhat wine like finnish. Medium MF, filling and warming and a nutty ending. Appareance is chestnut copper with some rubby hues and a dense, creamy white head. Nice, easygoing amber ale.
