Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Apr 1, 2007 Fynske Øldage 2005, Odense. Dark amber with a nice head. the aroma makes me think of cheese, but I also get notes of dark fruit, caramel and sweetness. the flavour is sweet, very sweet. It has notes of roasted malt, candy sugar, caramel, fruit, berries and is full-bodied. It’s not a bad one, but it doesn’t make my hands clap either... thebeertourist (2750), Oslo, Norway Mar 23, 2007 Bottle. Hazy, orangey amber with a big yellowish head that left nice lacing. Great fruity aroma, that is vinous and spicy at the same time. Spicy flavours, fruit, even a bit of chocolate, nice bitter finish. ’t IJ does not let you down. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Mar 6, 2007 Updated: Mar 15, 2007330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. The beer is quite clear reddish brown when poured, a slight haziness may occur if the sediment is disturbed in the end, decent head. LOVELY aroma with intense fruity and vinous notes, spices are very much present too. The flavour is also fruity and spicy but not very powerful, hints of caramel. Moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness. A slightly salty finish. Light bodied, the ABV is well hidden. Easy drinking. The aftertaste is not remarkable.
gnoff (3559), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 2, 2007 (33 cl bottle at The Rover, Göteborg) Cloudy brown color, tan head. Metallic, slightly fruity but also sweet malty scent. Sweet phenolic and sugary taste. Medium mouthfeel. Sweet aftertaste. Medium bitterness. SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Feb 16, 2007 Brilliant amber/brown. Large, dense, chunky, tan cap leaves a coat of lace. Nose of sweet malt, musty doughy yeast, fresh vegetation (not quite herbal), and light perfume. Flavor adds some caramel cookie malt, subtle funk to the yeast, dry and yeasty finish, and aftertaste of toasted cookies and sweet herbs. Medium body, soft and foamy, too much carbonation. Nice session dubbel with a t IJ twist. HenrikSoegaard (4263), Randers, Denmark Feb 16, 2007 Bottle. Creamy white excellent fully lasting head. Cloudy amber colour. Light malty/hoppy/yeasty aroma. Ok flavor, but overwhealming mangonotes like other ’t IJ beers. Average finish. Oily palate but way too fizzy. TheBeerOrg (1563), Kentucky, USA Jan 17, 2007 Pours dark reddish brown with a thin, mostly receding wispy light brown head. Aroma of cherries, sticky alefruits, raisins, toffee. Taste is sweet toffee malt, plum, raisins, and oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with slight stickiness and lush carbonation. Very interesting, dubbel-ish beer. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 17, 2007 33cl bottle from AMS to SFO via LHR. upon cracking the bottle, I could tell it was an ’IJ beer with its fruity aroma with hints of spices. Plum is dominate with some rasin and cinmon. Flavor is moderately sweet with not much else too it. very carbonated. Not quite a dubbel, and a bit bland to be great but still a very solid beer.
