Good beer. Nugget (30), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 22, 2006 Pours a murky dark orange with l’il floaties. Smells a little tart and yeasty (a la Van den Vern). Kind of bready. Tastes slightly sweet but there’s not much else to it. A very unexciting beer. OleR (2008), Oslo, Norway Sep 28, 2006 Bottle. Big tanned head with nice laces. Unclear reddish-brown color. Malty nose. Also slight fruity with notes of yeast. Soft flavors of malts, caramel and dark fruits. Watery palate. Overall a bit thin, and it lacks the required gravity for a dubbel. I miss that special ‘t IJ quality signature on this one… omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 27, 2006 [Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm] Muddy dark amber, rich head. Evidently yeasty, orangey nose. Mdedium sweet with lively mouthfeel. Soap, yeast and orange dominates, the caramelly malt are barely perceptible underneath th efunky yeast character. Good body, good brew. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Sep 23, 2006 Bottle at Pieter/Charlotte’s leaving party. Nice head, quite brown, another excellent Dubbel. It’s from a small microbrewer in A’dam. A bit sweet and thinner than most Dubbels. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 20, 2006 Bottle at Monks Café. Stockholm. Hazy reddish brown with a big beige foam. Yeasty aroma of almond, cardamonn, roasted malt, banana and red berries. mellow yeasty flavour of cream, almond and grass. Smooth aftertaste of yeast and grass. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Sep 15, 2006 BB 08/2005. Another 2 buck special. Dark brown purplish tinted beer with a creamy tan head. Sweet fruity aroma, plums and dark cherries, sweet chewy toasted malts, yeast shows subdued clove and some sweet apple and grapey vineousness as well. Flavour is sweet and plummy but also lighted textured than many other dubbels. This makes it creamy and sweet, but also somewhat refreshing. Creamy texture, light mint herbal character. Some clove and light apple through the finish along with a lingering breadiness. Nice beer.
