Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA May 3, 2005 This pours a hazy brown color with lots of yeasty residue. The full tan head retreats into a light cap which lingers and laces the length of the drink. The aroma is somewhat musty, but it’s got a nutty malt aroma with brown sugar and juicy dark fruits. The flavor is a sweet, nutty malt with a surprising rush of chocolate overlaying the fruity tastes. The finish is mildly bitter and tart. Good drink. Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark Apr 28, 2005 Bottle. Red-brown with a solid beige head and nice lace. Dark fruits, berries, yeast, dry, little dusty, medium-full, soft mouthfeel. Good! Thanks Jbrus. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Apr 10, 2005 Updated: Apr 24, 200533cL bottle, chalice. Deep murky brown hue with red highlights. Giant, creamy/frothy, off-white head doesn’t last as long as I had hoped. Huge chocolate and candi sugar malt presence. Slightly nutty. Nice floral hop profile. Sweet dough yeast aroma. Plums, raisins, somewhat vinous, maderia. Pleasant and rounded aroma...the chocolate is to die for. Moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly sweet flavor becomes a lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter finish. Somewhat sour finish. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: Great aroma, nice looking...an odd sourness in the finish (think grapefruit) and a too-slick palate that results in the taste washing away quickly are what hold this beer back. Like most of the ’t IJ beers I’ve had, I would recommend being very cautious with the yeast near the end of the pour. It’s a potent strain! bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Apr 6, 2005 large pour out of a bottle this time at the windmill brewery. one of the darker ones i had at the brewery. sweet choc malt flavors with dark fruit and mollasses brown sugar spice piched in there somewhere. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Apr 2, 2005 A dark brown appearance with a large head. This one was bent a little more sour than most dubbles Ive had. The main flavor going on here is chocolate followed by some raisins and nutmeg. There is some citrus detectable in the aftertaste. It looks like I enjoyed this more than most. smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA Mar 19, 2005 Bottle - deep fruity aroma. Medium dark brown body. Beige head atop. It dissipated rather quickly in spite of a rather overzealous pour on my behalf. Flavor is very nice with it bouncing all over the mouth. Malty, dark fruits, lingering. Kind of a fizzy mouthfeel. Another good one from a brewery whose name I cannot pronounce! Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia Feb 24, 2005 Bottle: The deep brown colour looks good in the glass and the head stays firm and crisp. There is a cloying nature to this beer that tends to suggest that it hasn’t been fully through the brew cycle. While this is not a bad beer to consume I found it somewhat lacklustre. marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Feb 12, 2005 Consumed in the tIJ windmill. This brown beer pours with a large tan head. The flavor is, alas, quite nondescript; very thin and not very pleasant. I had to wash this one down with a Columbus.
