The beer has a nice appearance with a hazy dark brown body and a nice creamy tan head. It has an unpleasant sourish-earthy acedic aroma with some toffe and toasted caramel. The flavor is similar too with its own earthy character...All the brews of t’ij has this earthy and a little bit infected character....I do not know again....It has the nice toffee and belgian yeast characters...But over there is some troublesome character in the flavor... | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2005 For a dubbel, it was winey, but with a creamy texture and a fine bubbled head. A nice fruity/doughy mix, with flavors of berries, red grapes, dark sweet raisin bread, and cream. There was a bit of acidity and a lingering sourness at the end, that try as I might, did not grow on me. Still, a nice dubbel. Quinten (974), zaandam, Netherlands

Surprisingly hoppy aroma for this style. Flavor centers around artificial grape flavor, and finishes sour. Some good notes, reminiscent of the caramel and raisins found in Corsendonk Brown. On the whole, a disappointing offering from this fine brewery. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 3, 2008 Pours a fogged brown. Nose is just like pineapple juice right out of the can. Slight funky cherry wood there as well. Reminds me of a flanders…hmmm…and maybe that is what this is. I am writing this before checking the style. Flavor is that woody cherry character. The wood stays very prominent and leaves a lasting impression on the palate. Feel has a lot of carbonation, but not overly done. Liquid is well bodied. Very drinkable, but again with this brewery: worth the price? Seems a bit high to me. Could be just where I bought it though. VENOM (941), Connecticut, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2002 Murky dark copper with suspended yeast and chunks on the bottom. Thinnish light tan head. Light but steady carbonation. Aroma of oranges, caramel rice cakes and what appears to smell like an empty fish tank (moldy fish smell). Initial impression - A dark Saison. Wacky burnt steak flavor, some tartness and savory herbiness. Yeast pour is dark (just sits on the top). Fairly mellow, lightly bubbly. Thick maltiness emerges as does a roasted aroma. Farmy and yeasty though. Sourish lip smacking sweetness. Finishes chalky and hoppy, with an edge of sweetness. Strange. reakt (938), Greater London, England

Dark amber with the the usual ’t IJ unruly head - big, pillowy and rapidly swelling. Fruit, yeast and spice in the nose. Taste is yeasty with some caramel, fruit and rum. Pleasant fruity bitter finish. It’s good, but there’s something not quite right about it.
