The iron was gone and instead prune was all over it. The flemish brown like flavors were gone as well. It's sweeter and better hopped. 03-03-2002, 4: Iron, light tart aroma. Clear, brown, light brown frothy lasting head, good lacing. Sweet, moderate full, hops, light iron taste. Bit horseblanket in the finish as well as light bitterness, but longlasting. Tastes like a flemish brown (red) to me. leaparsons (4749), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 28, 2006 Bottled. A muddy brown coloured beer with no head or lacing. The aroma is typical, with raisin fruits and alcoholic malts. The taste is also malty and fruity with a little chocolate and alcohol. A tasty drinkable dubbel. Ernest (4495), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Mar 1, 2006 Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is murky light to medium brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, nuts), moderately yeasty (horseblanket, barnyard), with notes of band-aid and sour apple, hint of cherry. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. About as odd as the Plzen...very horsey/Bretty and tart, not usual characters for a dubbel. Whereas these characters are kind of cool in the Plzen, I did not care for them in this one. It was almost like a Flemish sour ale that wasn’t finished yet, or more accurately like a dumping glass at a beer fest that contained a mixture of lambics and brown ales. Confused and unenjoyable. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 31, 2004 33 cl bottle, purchased at The Foodery in Philadelphia. Dark maple, "dubbel" type appearance, largish lasting head. Aromatic brown sugar, molasses, orangepeel and tulip in the nose, wonderful. Flavor alas a huge disappointment: old wet cardboard, sour, vinegary malt, no sweetness or fruit whatsoever, really unpleasant...could be a bad bottle I suppose? At any rate, I can’t give it good marks on this initial try...if the other t IJ beers I have are fine, I’ll chalk it up to poor storage or age. Close to undrinkable as is. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic
