| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 24, 2004 Russet brown hue with initial large frothy head which faded into a nice ring, some lacing. The aroma hints of caramel and toffee notes, floral, berry and lemon, earthy yeast esters and some phenols. The taste starts twangy and sweet combination with a woody finish. Undertones of flowers, hay, and pepper. The finish is a muddled mix of malts and yeast and seems to not display much complexity. The mouthfeel is lively and crisp and not as thin as the Zatte. While not a strong as some of its stable mates, the alcohol seems more pronounced in this beer. Has a double style, it lacks the complexity I hoped for, still is quaffable enough for a try. Not as good as told. Should be better than Westmalle dubbel, Jens said, but I found it very highcarbonated and somewhat harsh and woody. But maybe it was a bad bottle. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 10, 2006 Pours hazy light brown with small tan head. Aroma of medium to dark malt and candi sugar with some light earthy and alcohol smell. Flavor is bready yeast with light malt and a little sourness. Earthy and musty, and more hoppy than I would expect for this style. I wouldn’t classify it as a Dubbel, but maybe somewhere between a Dubbel and a Saison. Not to style, but I like it nonetheless. Dark amber with a nice head. the aroma makes me think of cheese, but I also get notes of dark fruit, caramel and sweetness. the flavour is sweet, very sweet. It has notes of roasted malt, candy sugar, caramel, fruit, berries and is full-bodied. It’s not a bad one, but it doesn’t make my hands clap either... ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Bottle dated Sept 2002. Cloudy reddish brown, moderate head with good lacing and retention. Aroma is raisin, dark sugars, hint of chocolate, some spiced funk. Flavor brings this, medium to light body and slightly oxidized. Fairly tart, don’t know if that’s because of the age or not. Overall it just wasn’t that enjoyable.
