rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Nov 4, 2005 Bottle, sampled at The Rover, Göteborg.
Dark brown. Quadrupel nose - plum, licorice, residual sugars. Full, chewy body with notes of chocolate, licorice(impy stout comes to mind), plum, dark apples. Pretty complex. Bitter exit. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA Oct 31, 2005 This beer rocked my socks. As previously noted in many places, I am somewhat picky in liking Belgian strongs, so this was a nice surprise--and something I will be buying again. The aroma is candied oranges, molasses, rum, brown sugar, raisins, anise, wood, caramel, and some type of flower. Deep cloudy mahoghany topped with a diminishing offwhite head. Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated, thick, heavy, rish, coating, with a lasting maltiness on the swallow. Taste started sweet and syrupy, moved quickly to a spiced, fruity middle, and ended on a chocolate note. Excellent stuff. Pernille (518), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 30, 2005 (At Fynske Øldage) Amber color. Steady small head. Very malty. Hollow body. Yeasty finish. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 14, 2005 Bottled.
Cloudy red brown coloured with a medium sized yellow head.
Sweet aroma of pine needles, overriped fruit, dried fruits and caramel.
Flavour of pine needles, caramel and hops with notes of dried fruits.
sloth (1657), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Oct 2, 2005 Small light tan head, good retention, little to no lace. Murky brown color, not a very pretty brew. Nose is malty, caramel along with dark fruits, raisins and a touch doughy. Body is med/full, creamy with a sprightly carbonation.. A goodly amount of medium sweet malt flavors, plums a light butteryness, cooky dough and sugar wafers. Finish is medium sweet, bready. Nifty little brew. fluids (364), USA Sep 24, 2005 Updated: Jun 9, 2006Head goes quickly. Dark copper no sediment. Smell is bananas and metal. Banana malt chocolate that expands and tingles as far the effervesense. In the middle of the palate the bitterness hits. Ends on a slightly bitter note TIJ does a great of making all of it’s offerings very unique from each other. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Sep 19, 2005 pours a depp brown with hints of orange, and a decent tan head. aroma is deep and pruny with obvious alchol and yeast. good carbonation. Tatses of dark fruit, plums and apricots with a bit of a cholocately carmelness. a very noticable alcohol warming finish. The first sip seemed a bit watery, but it coats the mounth on finsh. This is a real unique, full beer kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2005 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a murkey brown with a large light brown head. This one loses a point on appearance due to the excessively chunky floaties in there even though it looked like I did a good job decanting. I don’t mind cloudy, but these are a little distracting. Aroma is deep with plum, dates, yeast, alcohol, and a little of that funk that’s typical of darker belgian styles. Mouthfeel is a little carbonated at first but quickly transitions into a creamy mouth-coating treat. Flavor is very complex, a lot going on in this one. Plums, yeast, and malt. Finish reminds me of caramels with a warming alcohol. Overall I liked this one very much. Doesn’t seem to fit either style mentioned very well, very unique.
