| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 22, 2009 Bottle (in NZ) - lively pours, a hazy dark amber with a large frothy yellowish head. On the nose - medicinal, toffee, some fruit, and slightly nutty. Fruity and spicy, with warming alcohol on the palate. Big and bold, but just doesn’t ruffle my feathers. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 17, 2004 Dense deep red appearance, thick head formation. Sweet, strong black cherry aroma, mild yoghurty cheesiness, quite intriguing. Smooth creamy black cherry flavor, overlapped by a dry yeastiness. Heavy bitterness throughout, maybe a little too much so. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA

Ruddy Brown.
The nose is odd. Chocolate, banana and clove are present cinnamon, ripe fruits and a slight hint of peppers.
Light and fluffy but still full bodied and complex. Notes of chocolate, caramel, cherries and plums. The hops are flowery and dominant, especially on the finish. Beer2000 (1852), Kristiansand, Norway
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2009 330 ml bottle. Dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of dark malt, some caramel, hint of dark fruit and a bit spicy. Flavor is medium sweet malty with caramel, dry fruit and moderate hoppy. I think this is my favorite from Brouwerij ’t IJ Dorwart (1830), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 10, 2007 Good sized frothy white head of fine bubbles. Excellent carbonation. Sweet and sour notes jump out in the aroma. Very fruity, with some sour grapes, light spices and wet oak. Color is a cloudy dark copper brown. Medium bodied and very warming. Light malts, spices and yeast. Sourness is not very apparent in the flavor. Big alcohol presence. I would guess more that 9%. Finishes pretty clean and warm with a lingering spicyness. Pretty good and very easy drinking. illinismitty (1801), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 6, 2006 bottle purchased at State Line Liquors. Pours a murky amber, looks like liquid butterscotch syrup. Nice thick off white head. Aroma of fruit flavored tea and musty basement. Rather thin texture. Flavors of caramel apple, bread, yeast, and dark fruit. Sort of like if you mixed a barleywine and weizenbock and watered it down, you’d get something that tastes like this. Finish is slightly cloying. Surprised at how high this is rated. At 4.00 a bottle, I won’t be coming back to this unless it’s free.
