Rich aroma; sweet (raisins), spice and a little bit of "balsamico"? Taste is soft, sweet/malty in a syrupy way. A little chocolate-bitter, slightly dry finish. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 6, 2005 this one was the second of the 2 bottle beers i had at the windmill brewery. had a deep burgundy brown pour with a tan shitoke head. now mind you this was the last beer at the brewery and my head was swimming with the windmill humm. huge nose of dark fuits raisins, apples, figs and plums... sweet notes of rock candy , brown sugar, honey and vanilla. yeasty texture with bread like freshness and that tin roof rusted thing l. nice mouth feel and not as much alcohol feel as the others. need to try it again to completely appreciate this beer. however, what i remember was very nice. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Into a stumpy chalice at just on cool. Big, rocky beige head formed off the pour with little stopping its release. Rose a good half inch from the lip of the glass. Body, a muddy chestnut with a lot of quickly settling yeast forming a cake on the base. Big, fresh, prickly and tickly fruits on the nose like honeydew, cantaloupe and tart peaches. Nice backbone of sweet toffee, candi and a hint of yeast aids its complexities, yet it didn’t excite like the last ’t Ij I tried. Yeasty, caramelly and doughy in the mouth, light showing of toasted grains and ripe tart fruit with just a tainting edge of plastic taking the fantasy out of it. Frothy in the mouth, body is medium. Rock candi flavour lingers in the aftertaste, a light warmth of alcohol in the swallow. A peppery spice aids it’s phenolics, well masked alcohol, though, adds points. A mere shadow of the ’Vlo’. Not altogether integrated but as is it weren’t too bad. (33cL, Batch No.20, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville) gam (1123), brisbane, Australia

Garnet colored beer with a small tapioca head that left nice ringlets of lacing on the inside of the glass. Aroma is brown sugar, dark fruit, caramel and Belgian yeast. Flavor is toffee, molasses, cherry skin, and biscuit. Also has an almost brett-like sourness which adds to the complexity. Nice mouthfeel and highly drinkable. Really enjoyed this one. goozen (1102), Leiden, Netherlands
