pintocb (508), Darsville, Georgia, USA May 4, 2007 Faint orangy type aroma. Cloudy butterscotch color. Thin mouthfeel with strong carbonation. Too much for a tripel. Malty and yeasty with some hints of citrus. Very subtle bitter finish. pubbe (493), Højbjerg, Denmark Apr 19, 2007 Cloudy yellow colour with creamy off-white head of long duration. Friuts, fruitacids and flowers in the powerfull aroma. Friuts and yeast in the flavor. Average rather orangy finish. goozen (1061), Leiden, Netherlands Apr 18, 2007 Bottle 0,33ltr: Dark orange coloured tripel with fruity, honey taste. Very decent bio-beer. thewolf (5635), Kolding, Denmark Apr 9, 2007 Pours a pale, muddy orange-yellow with a small creamy off white head. Lots of particles and bubbles. Aroma has lots of fruityness from the yeast, some oranges and a little honey. A little spritzy mouthfeel. More powerful taste than you’d expect - not as light and fresh as the aroma. Lots of oranges in the flavour as well and generally sweet. SilkTork (4155), Rochester, Kent, England Apr 6, 2007 ChrisFest Pale and perfumed. Fairly dry. An attractive chalky ale - though lacking in range and depth. Fukito (604), Buenos Aires, Argentina Mar 31, 2007 Tap at T´Ij, march 07. Peachy, minerally, honeish with a salty finnish. Fruity and spicy aroma. Medium MF, velvety, silk. Clear golden color with a bit thin but lasting white head. Doesn´t seems to be a tripple, really swift and deceiving. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Mar 20, 2007 Bottle is dated August 2002. Dunno if that was bottling or best by date, but this one is old. Upon uncapping, the aroma was detectable from a few feet away, and when I got closer it pricked the nose. Hazy golden with a smallish head, decent lacing and retention. Very huge orange/citrus aroma with lesser notes of yeast and a trace of pepper. Actually similar aroma to Orval, but not quite. Surprisingly powerful aroma, flavor is a slight step down but still good. Medium bodied, a light sweetness. Enjoyable, I wonder what a fresh sample would bring. islay (470), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 10, 2007 11.2 oz. bottle labelled as March 2006. Interesting, floral aroma featuring melon, cinnamon, bourbon, yellow raisin, and wheat notes. Pours a hazy, effervescent dark brass with suspended particulate and a large amount of near-white head. Produces extensive lacing. Fruit-juice-sweet flavor (orange, tangerine, apricot nectar, grape juice, apple juice). Reminiscent of a German dessert wine. Hops noticeable only in the tart finish. Medium-to-full body. Sharp and lively in the palate. I’m not the biggest fan of the pale abbey-style tripels, but I found ’t IJ Zatte to be an interesting and welcoming, though by no means amazing, brew.
