igel (196), New Mexico, USA Nov 7, 2004 An amber/orange color, hazy, with a full white head; effervescent, with full lacing and a nice film. Aroma is of pineapple, apples, pears and other fruity esters. Flavor has a sweet start and bitter finish, dry and yeasty. Palate is smooth, medium bodied with low co2. Quite one-dimensional; smells like a tripel, but the finish is surprisingly dull and bitter. Emil (6075), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 4, 2004 Hazy golden color, heavy hoppy aroma, light fruity taste, full body, light sweet sour finish. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 26, 2004 This golden colored ale pours with a creamy white head. The aroma is very hoppy, as is the flavor. The taste is initially sweet and fruity with a more bitter finish. Overall, a very respectable tripel-style ale. JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 20, 2004 Yeasty aroma, nice golden color. Creamy, fruity flavor with a sour aftertaste. 8% alcohol is masked well in this tripel. Zatte didn’t lay an egg with me. MartinT (5026), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 15, 2004 Fluffy floral fragrances frolicking with fickle dry green hops...Heathery herb handsomeness hugging hypnotized peaches and assorted pale fruit...An airy agreeableness achieving adventurous accompaniment... tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Oct 15, 2004 Sweet marzipan malt and yeast with spicy, flowery hops in the aroma. Hazy, golden yellow with initially strong white head that recedes to cover. Malt dominated, sweet flavour has plenty of tropical fruits and a light tartness toward the finish. Very tasty. Smooth and creamy in the mouth. Bottle enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere at Spuyten Duyvil (Brooklyn, New York). Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 12, 2004 Bottle at Spuyten Duyvil. Hazy golden. Light white head. Weird citrus aroma, phenolic. Yeast component gives an odd fruity/creamy profile that reminds me of cat litter, but to be polite, I’ll say kaffir lime and zest. Palate is very fruity, citrusy with notes of mango and peach. Mostly sweet (powder sugar), but also lightly tart (lime). Rather silky body, medium in size, feeling ample. Once again an odd beer from T IJ which positions itself middle of the range among my tripels thanks to originality and an attractive apperance and mouthfeel. As soon as I crack the crown cap, a heady whiff of fruity aromas wafts out, with a suggestion of grapes in the lead. Hazy orange color, enormous crackly creamy head, casting a pinkish appearance in contrast to the body of the beer. Aroma is vibrant, dazzling, lovely, largely citrus and spice. Soft and sweet, with a slightly sour palate that remains throughout the finish. Somehow, I’m getting the feel of a lambic here, with the sourness and the fruit. Not among my favorite tripels, but a nice shot.
