mdi (573), Nebraska, USA May 2, 2006 33cl. BB 03/06. Pours a muddy, yeasty sunset color with a good, fine bead and a very awesome frothy, lacey head. Aroma is complete allure! Tropical fruits including pineapple, citrus, throw in some pear maybe, slight banna...fruit galore! French vanilla too...incredible aroma. Brings me back to Amsterdam...there’s maybe this faint red liquorice in it too...man its complex. The drink is completely lush, just like the aroma...silken sweetish fruit with a certain balancing tartness...something lemon like, merrange maybe....creamy sweet tart citrus. I think this is absolutely tremendous...a bit funky, a bit acidic, but the fruit is wonderous...and there is some malt there too! fomentateur (110), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 9, 2004 Zatte, dutch slang for pissed, as used by the English to describe one's self as inebriated ,is an excellent name for a beer that warns you of what you'll be after drinking it. Golden in color, Zatte pours with a wonderful white head, boasting tiny white bubbles that invite you to come and play. I liken the flavor of this beer to a liquid nutter butter cookie with a finish that keeps your lips coming back to the edge of the glass for more.
ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Jul 13, 2008 Bottled (33 cl) at het Amsterdamertje, Göteborg, Sweden. Hazy golden with medium white head. Fruity aroma with notes of wild strawberries, spicy & earthy notes. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. Very well balanced with a light initial sweetness followed by a firm dryness. A great saison-like beer. madsberg (4873), Søborg, Denmark Nov 21, 2003 Bottled: Clear light amber coloured. Huge white frothy head. Yeast, malt, spices and slight notes of cocoa in the nose. Sweet, yeasty and cocoa flavour. Notes of hops. Very smooth and pleasant. Has a faint bitterness in the end. Good dry lasting on the palate. Very good beer. JK (2944), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Mar 4, 2005 Updated: Sep 24, 2005Many aromas and they are all good. Nutmeg, yeast, wheat, pears, and apples. Cloudy orange with a huge Duvel-like head. Flavor is complex like the aroma. Citrus, wheat, more pears, and nutmeg. Light spices I can’t identify. Delicate. Smooth but not very full body. Think Tripel Karmeliet but slightly lighter. rauchbier (2992), Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, England Jan 10, 2003 Updated: Feb 22, 2004Bottle conditioned, bbe 05/03. Gold, excellent long lasting rocky fluffy white head and good condition. Hoppy aromas giving way to perfumed maltiness, hints of menthol and a faint suggestion of rubber, Soft and delicate sweet malt in the mouth with a robust balancing hoppiness, some traces of fruity esters and a nice yeastiness. Finish is pleasantly alcoholic and slightly dry. Gets better with age and hides its strength well.
JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Oct 14, 2002 Updated: Sep 16, 2004APPEARANCE: Darker and more amber with smaller, yet thicker head. Head lasts longer than Westmalle. AROMA:Biscuit and pear are present with hints of dry grass FLAVOR/BODY:
Soft and fluffy with hints of mandarine orange and bosc pear. Also some very sweet honeylike flavors. Spiciness is faint. Finish is dry, but not acidic or alcoholic, rather grassy. As it warms, thick noodle flavors come out, I’m guessing from the yeast. Less complex after only 10 minutes, but overall more tasty and complex than westmalle. William (181), Utrecht, Netherlands Apr 6, 2002 Had a draught Zatte which has a slightly tart sensation to it. It is very yeasty and has a clouded colour. It is fresh, a taste of bitter, and spicy. Very nice beer. I like the typical IJ glass, unlike any other beerglass.
