Medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Dryish with some citrus and the evident yeasty ’t IJ house character. Still it’s balanced and suprisingly drinkable for it’s size. An invidualtistic, very likable beer. gearbike (417), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 12, 2006 Bottle with a somewhat crude lable but a solid beer. I felt the 8% alcohol but it does not feel as stiff as most tripels. An odd combination of sweetness wiith a sour and somewhat bitter finish. It all blends very well for a drinkable combination. Cloudy yellow colour, big white head, aroma and taste of fruites, citrus, grains and mango. Some crisp and spicy notes in the finish. A great trippel. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 10, 2007 11.2 oz. bottle labelled as March 2006. Interesting, floral aroma featuring melon, cinnamon, bourbon, yellow raisin, and wheat notes. Pours a hazy, effervescent dark brass with suspended particulate and a large amount of near-white head. Produces extensive lacing. Fruit-juice-sweet flavor (orange, tangerine, apricot nectar, grape juice, apple juice). Reminiscent of a German dessert wine. Hops noticeable only in the tart finish. Medium-to-full body. Sharp and lively in the palate. I’m not the biggest fan of the pale abbey-style tripels, but I found ’t IJ Zatte to be an interesting and welcoming, though by no means amazing, brew. Beerlando (2332), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 19, 2008 Pours a very lightly hazy medium golden color. A frothy, off-white head shows good retention, settling slowly to a 2mm blanket that sticks. Sticky, splotchy lacing remains on the glass. Aromas are quite funky, dry, and laden with brett. Notes of light candy sugar, light fruity esters (banana maybe), bready yeast, and mild floral hop notes make for a very nice blend. Peppery notes emerge from the yeast, lending a welcomed spiciness. Flavors continue along those lines, with the sweetness of a candied pale malt base being countered by the spicy yeast and dry, musty brett. Very much in the mold of a Jolly Pumpkin in terms of yeast profile, though perhaps less dry and more peppery. Medium-plus bodied and softly carbonated, this one is quite drinkable, but lacking in substance for an 8% beer. Tails off at the finish, turning a little flat in flavor and palate. This is pretty good overall, and just a few tweaks short of brilliant. Beershine (2710), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 27, 2007 A bigger t’Ij beer than many of the others. Has a winter-warming quality. Malty and a tad on the sweet side. Good balance of flavors though. Creamy and soft. Chrism86 (278), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 9, 2009 Pours hazy golden orange with a decent, fizzy off white head. Nose is typical of t’ij beers, mildly tart frutis with some belgin yeast spice present too. Palate is more in line with what one would expect from a tripel. Lively carbonation that dries up the palate along with significant yeast spice and some relatively mild citrus fruit notes. Another pleasant albeit peculiar t’ij beer. Might have to do some research on the type of fermentation/yeast they use as house style is clearly evident.
