Bottle. Dark red colour. too strong alcohol dominance for a very high rating on such a complex and sweet beer. Liked the dubble more.

Bottle at Københavnske Øldage. Murky, brown beer with a dense, beige head. Dried fruits, coriander, spices and roastiness in the aroma. The flavor has alcohol, sweetness, some spices, dried fruits and hops. Sweet, warming mouthfeel. Some hops in the finish. Not a beer for the summer time, it’s too heavy, but it’s lovely for a winter warmer or something like that. (070512)

Appearance: Pours a clear, amber body with a khaki-colored head. Smell: Perfumy aroma of amontillado, dried fruits (bananas and golden raisins), and caramel. Taste: Caramel sweetness along with the fruits carrying over from the aroma. That’s really all there is to it, flavorwise. The mercifully brief finish is a 2-to-1 blend of alcohol and yeast. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Very little carbonation. Drinkability: I can’t honestly recommend this one at all. The words "stop" and "no" pop-up in my mind whenever I see this beer in stores now.

From a 330mL Bottle. Pours a mostly transparent, vibrant ruby caramel color with a thin layer of well sustaining, fizzy off-white foam. Served in my Duvel glass, which does an excellent job in keeping the fizz coming to preserve the head and unleash the aroma. Fruit bread aroma. Tons of candied cherries, gumdrops, honey, rum-soaked black cake, and a freshy yeasty doughiness creates an enticing bouquet. A bit of a candied almond nuttiness with that lightly toasted caremlized brown sugar. A hint of alcohol noticeable in the nose, but well strained for 12% with the edges ironed out smoothly. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel. The carbonation explodes over the tongue with a sizzling intensity. Quite dry, especially considering the ABV, and the carbonation helps enhance this character. Flavors of dry caramels and herbal spice. A bit of rye bread and lightly toasted oak. The aroma is outstanding, but the flavor doesn’t seem to hold up quite as well. The rich fruitiness and inviting yeasty doughiness gets eaten up by the dry, oak-like finish. A hint of peppery spice and fruity peach schnapps serve as bookends to these dry malt notes, but fleetingly so. A bit of herbal bitterness lingers with some alcohol warmth that’s noticeable, but not harsh with any fusel characters. Very interesting, thought provoking beer. Thanks, Julian!

Bottle from Kingdom Liquors Brandon, Fl. Pours a clear amber with a large long lasting off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, raisins, apricot, and light spices. Taste is the same as aroma with a nice yeasty spice aftertaste. Medium full body with a little warmth from the alcohol and mild bitterness. A good BSA.

Deep amber/rust in colour, very small off white coloured head, lots of suspended particles, no lacing. The aroma was quite boozy, very fruity, lots of caramel sweetness, quite malty. The flavour was a bit flat, noticable dark fruits, some caramel, buttery, ever present alcohol. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes very hot with a lingering sweetness. Age did nothing to tame the alcohol, probably a lot better fresh.

330ml bottle from the <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/new-york target=blank>Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.
Vintage 2002.
