I’m not sure what the other raters had a problem with but I found this beer to be exceptional. The aroma was candy sweet, chocolatey, caramels, nutmeg and some alcohol present. Appearance was a muddy brown color, nice head with good lacing. Mouthfeel was exceptional. Not only did I find it creamy and smooth, but very little trace of the 12% alcohol present either (a big plus for me). Flavors were pretty much the same as the nose but I could pick up some earthyness to it also with was very nice. Overall, an excellent beer that I will spend my money on again. 1FastSTi (2577), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 10, 2006 2002 vintage. The beer pours to a rusty orange body with lots of particulate (you really have to look for it, however, because it makes it just seem non-translucent). A nice off-white head with great lacing sits on top. It looks like it is nitrogenated, the head is so dense. The aroma is strange. Perhaps that’s the valerian root and lemon balm they used to brew this? Kinda sweet and planty with light mint and raisins. The flavor is sweet and malty with some pears, ground cherries, strange lemons, and some funky nutty cheese-sort-of thing going on. Very, very, strange. The palate is full, lightly sticky, dry. So, does this have the mild sedative properties of valerian? dwyerpg (2545), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 6, 2006 Very cloudy, the dregs of the bottle. Seems almost more like a dubbel in character, except for the high alcohol. One of those beers that makes you love beer. no 74. thebeertourist (2822), Oslo, Norway

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Thanks to Johan from whom I received this bottle yesterday at a very important occasion. Quite an amazing beer that I very much enjoyed. For a 12% amber colored beer, the alcohol is very well hidden. It has a sweet, caramel aroma. The appearance is perfect with a nice head and good lacing. The taste is quite smokey and ends again with real hints of smokey malts. Vac (2394), San Diego, California, USA
