Aroma, caramel, some chocolate, yeasty, and some sugars. Flavor, caramel, some carbonation, very sweet, and there was a definite sherry quality to it. Also I picked up a bit of oxidation. beerbuzzmontreal (2931), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 30, 2007 250ml bottle. Sweet, fruity aroma of brown sugar, spices and baked apples along with lighter notes of musty yeast, leafy herbs and old wood. Deep red-brown color, hazy and bottle-conditioned (some particulates released when the bottle was uncapped) and featuring a lasting, creamy, uneven head. Flavor profile is likewise fruity and sweet but features a satisfying depth of flavor, accented by sugary, toffeeish malts, traces of the calvados here and there, peppery alcohol, plum, raisin, faint earthiness and even a bit of roasty chocolate on the finish, which is quite long. Mouthfeel is smooth, thin and warming with light-moderate effervescence and a richly full body. Not a bad choice for a nightcap or dessert. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 24, 2007 Pours dark brown / bronze with a frothy tan head. The aroma has Belgium earthiness, musty apples, woody, thick malt, hints of spice and an unidentifiable-by-me liquor. Medium / full body with some sharp, yet gentle, carbonation. The taste starts with the mystery liquor, malt, earthiness and some sweetness - the carbonation hides some of the flavors. The finish spices things up with a spicy touch, smashed musty apples and some alcohol warmth. Nice interesting Belgium ale.
