Sweetcaramelly taste, again salmiak-like, which is well-integrated in this brew. Long, chewy finish. Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands

Fruity, toffeish nose..sweet malts for sure. The cask aging comes through with emphasis in the taste..apples, woody, vinous, malty all at the same time. Some spiciness lends a hand to the inevitable alcohol kick. Not bad at all, I kinda liked it but won’t go out of my way to get a bunch of it. AlchemistZ (493), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 28, 2005 Cloudy, dark amber in color with no head even with a forced pour. Very rich aroma with some green apple hiding behind molasses, sugar, fortified wine, chocolate cake, and spicy alcohol. Flavor is orangey, spicy alcohol, molasses, milk chocolate, and some shrimp shells. Residual sweetness and alcohol balance in the finish. A decent digestif. Nuffield (2749), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 23, 2005 Hazy nut brown with surprising head for the alcohol level. Raisins, prunes, and a vintage quality to it, with a smooth mouthfeel that goes a bit thin but still maintains interest (the alcohol figuring prominently at all levels). Enjoyable. fluids (364), USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 15, 2005 No head. Looks like hard cider, a murky brownish coloring. Deep Deep Malty figgy smell. Smooth dryish caramel malt with slight hints of sherry. Very well blended and aged. Well rounded and has a lot of depth in flavor. Sip it slowly. It has a sweet and salty molasses taste and the flavor roams between the two. Available at Colonial Spirits in Acton. 11026 (1772), Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 29, 2005 Bottle. Ruddy brown color with a good deal of haze to it, plenty of yeasties on the bottom of the glass. Modest off-white head forms and leaves fair lacing behind. Nice malty nose, lots of wood and sherry? notes. Medium bodied, well restrained alcohol. Woody, malty with just a hint of residual sweetness. Quite well done. RAYBOY01 (1870), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 16, 2005 Very sweet dried fruit flavors, with notes of raisins/currants/dates/etc. Apple brandy flavors as well with a touch of smoke. Wine like texture and clinging palate. Burnt sugar in the finish. Alcohol, despite all past reviews, VERY predominant...but I ain’t complaining!
