mmhnto (29), Lisle, Illinois, USA Apr 15, 2008 Aroma of ripe dark pitted fruit with honey notes followed by roasted barley. Pours a deep red color with significant haze and a long lasting although slight head. Flavor is very strong with roasted malt bitterness and sickly alcohol sweetness. The spices are subtle, but present, however, I can’t detect anything contributed by the wood aging in calvados casks. I usually enjoy Regenboog beers, but I’m not fond of this one.
TURDFERGUSON (1125), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle, shared by durhambeer. Thanks Bob! Nose was apple cider, cherries, smoke, oak, sherry/rum. Flavor has some pronounced belgian fruit/spice yeast characters, more oak, apples, tobacco, overripe fruit. durhambeer (397), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle with different label/bottle than that shown. Also said 11% on label, I think. This was interesting. Hazy light brown pour. Very strong and intense -- notes of tobacco, cherries; quite smoky, dusty, and peaty. Are those roasted hazelnuts I’m tasting? I really enjoyed this unique brew. amish_caravan (202), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 20, 2008 scent is of fresh fruit. taste is very smooth with fruit tones. finish is pretty smooth too. not a bad brew. IlanMan (521), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pour is dark golden/amber with little to no head. Aroma is strong of fruit, alcohol, and malt. Flavor is wow, in your face alcohol with a lot of malt and toffee notes. I got a bit of yeast and belgian spice as well. Pretty good but dang strong. Finish is more alcohol. emacgee (1033), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Aug 19, 2008 Thanks for sharing Bob, durhambeer. Pours a hazy pale brown. The nose is nutty, sweet, spicy, some nutmeg and other sweet spice. Tastes very nutty, slightly smokey, cherry, tobacco, spices, strange flavor. the palate had a nice carbonation and it finished kind of smokey.
