01-05 bottle. Cloudy light brown pour with off-white short-lived head. The aroma is the best thing about the beer. Strong, yeasty and filled with ripe fruits including plum, apple and banana peel. Some notes of earthiness as well. The flavor is mostly bitter and the bitterness masks most of the sweet fruitiness anticipated from the aroma, unfortunately. A peppery alcohol comes through in the finish. The palate is thick, syrupy and sticky. Moderate carbonation. The alcohol provides a nice warming.

January 2005 bottle. Nut brown color with a creamy head that instantly vanishes. Earthy aroma is full of malty nut, caramel, raisin and toffee. Balances well with the yeast. The body is softly carbonated and produces a silky and creamy mouthfeel. More sweet malt fills the mouth, balanced with a healthy hop bitterness in the finish. This is really missing any yeast influence in the body. Drinks more like a creamy nut brown than an abbey dubbel, but good anyways.

Date brown with creamy soapy bubble head. Yeast and boozy aroma. Dry and yeasty taste, malty and very drying finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Sourish taste with Dates. Found the coffee cream. FUll mouthfeel. Aggressive carbonation. Tad metallic.Unique but could not finish.

On Tap at the Toronado in San Francisco. I got the dregs of the keg, it blew while pouring my glass. Therefore, I got a little bit more yeast than is probably normal, and it probably affected the color, as this seemed very dark. Very strong yeast flavor. Nice estery notes. Lower carbination and a little less sweet than a typical dubbel. As you would expect, no hop flavor. A Delicious dubbel.

Bottle, poured into Chimay goblet. Beautiful dark brown color, cant see through the beer. The aroma is strong, bread-like aroma, but sweet at the same time. The body is actually thinner than expected. The taste is lost because of this.

Dark brown filling with little white head. A little sweetness from fruits & spices. Average carbonation and great finish! A great Belgium dubbel!
