Aroma of dark fruit, brown sugar and red wine. Flavors of dark fruit, earthy cellar, leather, nutmeg, tart cherry, red wine and oak. These all usually add up to an outstanding taste rating from me, but something is slightly amiss with this one, maybe the wateriness or near flatness. Medium body is watery, smooth with very little carbonation, and dry. kiefdog (1624), Tampa, Florida, USA

Good retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet, malty, maple syrup, ripe dark fruit, molasses. Flavor is sweet, malty, musty, some woody notes, some faint smokiness. Generally medium to full body with a malty and slightly oaky finish. corby112 (745), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a very dark cloudy chestnut brown with a thin tan foam head. There is a nice spiciness in the aroma complimenting the chocolate maltiness, dark fruit and earthy hops. The flavor is a nice balance of choclate, maltiness, plum, raisin, date, fig. Well balanced throughout with a dry bitter finish. Butters (1652), Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 29, 2008 Draft at the Thirsty Monk. Thanks Zoe ;) Very different. Not the typical yeast flavor I’ve come to expect from belgians. Some banana, nuttiness, farmhouse. leaparsons (4749), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

Flavours are yeasty with soft malts. Caramel and cream with spices. A bit different. scrizzz (1303), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 23, 2008 lots of sludgy goodness on the bottom of the bottle and I’m damned if i’m not gonna get it all in my glass. that leads to a murky, hazy, muddy brown, sparse head, and a varied aroma of figs, oak, brown sugar and nutmeg. Dark malt dominates, more spice and sugar. It’s a little chewy and with all of the heavy character I’d like a bit more weight to the body. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA

Aroma is firmly in the compost heap: veg in decay, but an interesting sort of decay. Some soft melons, a bit of caramel sans sweet. Messy but interesting. Alround rating: This must be the same beer as all thier other beers just like a little more brown malt, its like the house yeast just dominates everything.
