The aroma picked up sweeter honey, dark fruits, and spices.. there was an overriding air of sourness that I don’t believe was the intention, but it wasn’t bad. The flavor also had that sourness that unfortunately muted some of the underlying goodness.. caramel, darker fruits, and honey down there with a bit of cardamom and ginger.. finished with an odd contrast between the tasty maltage and the fruit skin tartness. Medium-bodied on the palate, again with the sourness getting in the way.. shame, too, because I really liked what was under there. aru (105), Smørum, Denmark

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 10, 2008 The thing I like about these beers is you can always tell what he is brewing with, the flavors are always present, the rest of the beer may be just okay, but you can always make out the extra added flavors. This has a rich sweet honey maltiness, and has that sweetness with the candi sugar and dates, along with some raisins and spices from the yeast lingering a bit with some clove. Decent, light and tame, but decent. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 8, 2008 Bottle at t Brugse Beertje, Brugge, April 2008. Nice rich brown colour. A notably clean & dry dubbel. Touch of tobacco smoke and spice. Certainly not a rich, fruity dubbel - I got the honey but not the dates - but quite pleasant and tasty. Warming (but not burning) alcohol.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2008 different label, yellow, has a scary dude face on it: little aroma; hazy brown body, small light tan head, some scattered lace; sweet flavor, but subdued by its own plain maltiness, or lack of hop character; good carbonation; decent brew. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 25, 2008 An OK Belgian - maybe this is better aged, or fresh - I have no idea how old the bottle was. Had a nice banana flavor, you could taste the honey in the mouthwarming sweetness. porterhouse (1156), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 11, 2008 (330 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours murky, rusty amberish brown. Lots of floaties. Thin biege head recedes to a very thin layer. Aroma is fruity (raisin, cherry) and candyish-sweet. Mouthfeel is light-medium full, a touch prickly. Slightly dry. Flavor is fairly sweet and also fruity. There were notes of brown sugar, raisin, smoke, dates and other fruit. Even some chocolate as it warmed. Slight note of alcohol toward finish. Sounds great on paper but somehow it only added up to a good but not overly impressive dubbel.
