Got the ill hookup from fata2683, thanks a lot Keith. Cap pops off, its not a gusher but the foam was steadily moving up the neck. This translates to a giant, bubbly, foamy, head that sits atop a thick, ruby-brown colored body that you cannot see through. The head eventually fades to a surface covering lacing. The bottle conditioning is apparent, as usually the case with t’Smisje, when the bottom of the bottle completely muddies up the beer with a ton of yeast poop. Aroma is very thick and complex. There is lots of tart berry, its earthy and musky, and has the house yeastiness common to most of the lineup. Lots of disparate aspects fighting in the beer and it seems to come off well. Its like an old world concoction. Flavor has some more of that tart berry and some fruit juice. There is a lightly sweet yet bitter finish. The mouthfeel is overcarbonated at first but calms down nicely.

Bottle from Bierkoning. Dark brown body with rocky, lasting head. Toasty nose of caramel and sweet. First lots of bitter, then warming with roasty malts and chocolate. Very bitter finish. Another fine and tasty product from ’t Smisje.

Dark mahogany with a very lively and lasting beige foam. The nose is all minerals and burnt sugar. Huge attack of CO2 masks the malt profile at first and you get a straight punch magnum-like bitterness followed by bitter oranges and burnt malt. This is an intense brew, a little bit unbalanced in the flavors tough. Less carbonation and a little bit of malt to supply the harsh bitterness would have been welcomed. Alcohol is present. Nevertheless an interesting belgian, defenitely one of the hoppiest I’ve ever had. Bottle at Le Cheval Blanc

33 cl bottle. Dark brown, pouring mostly head that settles to a smooth coating. Nose is dough, molasses, a touch of chocolate, orange peel and allspice. Creamy coating mouthfeel with a spicy, tingly effervescence. Taste is brown bread, sour raisin and grapefruit peel. Dusty, earthy finish with lingering bitterness.

Bottled. Gushing. Muddy brown coloured. Very yeasty aroma with fruits and marzipan. Sweet yeasty flavour with some yeast and some hop sharpness. Unclean, but drinkable.

330ml Bottle (Brugs Beertje, Brugge) - Hazy brown with a tan head. Fruity and slightly sweet aroma with dried fruit and marzipan,. Fruity taste with raisins and a fair amount of bitterness in a slightly rich finish.

33 cL bottle at DHVL Gardenparty and Beerfestival 2009. Pours dark brown, hazy and with a small, persiting tan head. Dry malty aroma with a light roasted note coming through. Vague butterish note. Roasted, dark toffee flavoured and with a nice roasted acidity too. Dry, roasted and phenolic finish.

Bottle. Pours fizzy and hazy deep amber coloured with a huge bubbly blubber-like off white head. Looks like a Smisje.. Aromas of candy, fruit, caramel, spicy yeast and chocolate. Very appealing aroma. Warming flavour with notes of sweet fruit, malt, hops, rubber, caramel and a surprisingly bitter finish. Strange but great brew. My favorite Smisje so far..
