Pours dark brown, hazy and with a small, persiting tan head. Dry malty aroma with a light roasted note coming through. Vague butterish note. Roasted, dark toffee flavoured and with a nice roasted acidity too. Dry, roasted and phenolic finish. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Dark brown color, gushing, too much carbonation, the head is huge initially but without persistance. Maybe also because of the carbonation, the aroma is only light. It has medium body, with excellent chocolate and caramel flavor, rhubarb candies and candi sugar, just some light residual sugars but not sweet. The alcohol is very warming. Very good. bierkoning (6043), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jun 6, 2009 Bottle. Murky brown color. Pours a huge head. Yeast and figs in the aroma. Yeasty flavor with dried fruit, figs and caramel. Sweet, almost sugary sweet but the yeastyness too strong throughout the tasting of this beer, which makes it almost unpleasant to drink. Disappointing. thewolf (5746), Kolding, Denmark
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 9, 2009 Bottle, bought @ The Bottle Shop in Brügge.
Pours deep redish brown qith a giant, light-beige, frothy head. Aroma is quite hoppy, some grassiness and fruitiness, lightly roasted, some plums. Generally quite powerful. Highish carbonation, good creamy and lightly dry mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit ashy, lots of interesting hops notes, good candi sugar. Long, lingering, bitter aftertaste. Very different for a Belgian beer and miles better than Smisjes Dubbel IPA. Magicdave6 (5501), London, Greater London, England

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 12, 2009 (33cl bottle) Pours a brown body with a thick rocky beige head. Aroma of raisins, dates, CO2, and mustiness. Flavor of alcohol, dark fruit, light Dr. Pepper, candi sugar, and burnt grain. I would probably appreciate more with a little age on this one. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 18, 2008 Actually comparison between the new ’t Smisje beer [A] and the trial run [B], made by P. Ghekiere on his homebrew installation at Mont (prov. Luxembourg)
Appearance:[A: Huge yellow-beige head, very dense, leaving nice lace and very stable; deep brown to black beer. [B Thickish, dense, slowly collapsing dark beige head, some lace, quite stable over virtually black beer. (4/5)
Nose: [A Sweet nose with some mild chocolate and fruity esters. Dry husks and some alcohol. [B Rich dark malts, chocolatecake nose; dry, dry grains, alcohol, mildly sweet-smelling. An impression of a brandy&chocolate cake, fluid. (7/10)
Flavour: [A Dry, very stout-like taste, roasted to burnt, ashes, dry bitter chocolate on top of crème praliné. [B Sweet-bitter beer, spicy and very roasted, lined with a slight sourishness, both stoutish and CO². Cypress, lactic/coffeecream. Dry palate and excellent balance (8/10)
Mouthfeel: [A Creamy texture, seems thinner than it probably is. Alcoholwarming in the throat [B Creamy, luxurious texture, well-bodied. In the aftertaste, all the different flavours come out perfectly blended. (4/5)
Overall: [A Probably the most severe beer ever to come out of the Regenboog kettles, but certainly not the worst. [B Impressive try, nearly unbelievable for a homebrew installation, even with professional assistance. (16/20) Hildigöltur (5109), København, Denmark
