9.0 vol% strong, dark to black colored beer with a subtle deep red shine.
The foam is quite amazing. Light brown (beige) colored with some fantastic textures.
Talking about a head, well this is one !! Amazing .....
After some while, the foam evolves into rocky solid structures, similar to the famous Duvel head, but this time more darker colored.
Tasting gives a Trappist Westvleteren 8 appearance !!! 80 IBU hop bitter. Sweetness mainly coming from rich use of dark candy sugar, but still the aftertaste is quite dry.
The hoppy bite, in combination with the sweet candy sugar is so typical for a dark Trappist beer. In this case I also notice some well balanced roasty malts. The new Regenboog yeast makes it even that more delicious.
No doubt, the recipe that is used here is a true wonder of brewing craftsmanship. Johan, GREAT job !
This is simply a masterpiece ! oberabcbbsok (686), Hoboken, Belgium

A very nice tasting beer. A good and complex beer with a great ballance of bitterness and sweetness Teders (1), , Netherlands does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 20, 2008 I tasted it the day it was presented (sa 12, Ny) and the day after in Hotton, both times from draft. Too cold, bizar foam (I’ll see if I can upload a pic) but very nice; nice bitternes, but with a sweetness to balance it. So I took 2 bottles home for the monthly PINT-tasting in Amsterdam. Even better then, and the winner of the evening. Even better balanced because the sweetness was toned down. Well done! fata2683 (894), Panama City, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 20, 2009 bottle, pours dark brown with a tall tan head. Smells hoppy and the side of the bottle says 80 EBU. Flavors are biscuit malt, yeast, earthiness, and some candi sugar. This was delicious. Case (37), Germany
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Pours dark-brown color with enormous brownish head. Aroma is sweet-yeasty with plums, candi sugar and some weird undefinable rather artificial note.
Taste is bold and spicy, dark fruits with a pronounced sour background reminding me of Oerbier. Alcohol is noticable but not overbearing. With all this going on and the spicy peppery mouthfeel I only ever noticed the hops in the aftertaste. Unlike the sweet aroma the taste is actually quite dry which I enjoy a lot. This is a big imposing brew that constitutes an interesting unique mix but maybe slightly overreaches by trying to be everything at the same time: big and very hoppy and sour. That said it is well-balanced and very drinkable. I think this brew must have been at least partially inspired by Oerbier and certainly owes a lot to the classic. Next time I’ll try to have it together with an Oerbier in order to be able to make further comparisons. A great brew! Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Sweet and hoppy all at the same time. A big dose of earthiness in the aroma is killer here, though - I love the smell of Regenboog beers. This beer has some candied fruit sweetness with a resounding but unusual spiciness - pepper and mutated cinnamon. Great conditioning, lovely color, perfect body, refreshing at 9%, weird. What more could you want? Thanks Eugene. thebeertourist (2820), Oslo, Norway
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. Very dark brown with a huge, creamy beige head. Dark fruits and chocolate aroma. Nice complex flavours, ranging from tart fruit to roasted malts, but ending on a hoppy note with noticeable alcohol. Medium carbonation. Not adhering to any specific style (I do not agree on the dry stout classification), it is one of those beers that is only made in Belgium. beastiefan2k (1603), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 4, 2009 Got the ill hookup from fata2683, thanks a lot Keith. Cap pops off, its not a gusher but the foam was steadily moving up the neck. This translates to a giant, bubbly, foamy, head that sits atop a thick, ruby-brown colored body that you cannot see through. The head eventually fades to a surface covering lacing. The bottle conditioning is apparent, as usually the case with t’Smisje, when the bottom of the bottle completely muddies up the beer with a ton of yeast poop. Aroma is very thick and complex. There is lots of tart berry, its earthy and musky, and has the house yeastiness common to most of the lineup. Lots of disparate aspects fighting in the beer and it seems to come off well. Its like an old world concoction. Flavor has some more of that tart berry and some fruit juice. There is a lightly sweet yet bitter finish. The mouthfeel is overcarbonated at first but calms down nicely.
33cL stubby bottle, marked, thin, tall Boulevard tulip.
