| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 29, 2004 This brew pours with a deep amber-orange body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet yet slightly bitter and spicy with a slight lemon note and a touch of malt. The flavor is slightly sweet and slightly citrusy with a touch of spice and a hint of mustard. Not all that great. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch dry. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2004 Bottle contains nearly a 1/4 inch of murky sediment at the bottom. Pours a deep golden body with abundant carbonation and a loose fizzy head that quickly vanished. Nose of biscuits, mustard, and grass. After sniffing this for a while, a burning sensation develops in the nasal muscosa from the "mustard gas". Finding this aroma in a beer would scare the crap out of me if I didn’t know that it contained mustard seed. Citrusy esters come through in the flavor and lead to some mild mustard spice. Phenols are prominent and slightly, but not overly, detracting. Solid Munich malt character helps tie the flavors together and make this distinct and enjoyable rather than funky and disjointed. However the aftertaste suggests lemon tea. Medium-light body, also with a tea-like quality. Uniqueness makes this hard to evaluate, but it is fun and interesting. Thanks Sean (igel) for the spontaneous beer donation. Cornfield (4956), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2004 The concept of an ale brewed with mustard seeds sounds like something that my buddies & I would come up with during a night of heavy beer "sampling." (Remember, if anyone comes out with a gherkin beer, we had the idea first!) This poured a hazy golden color with a modest, fizzy white head. The aroma is slightly sour with some spicy notes. It’s medium-bodied, lightly carbonated, with tastes of oranges, sweet/sour candy, and a nice doughy malt. The finish is dry, a birt tart, and finally gives you a hint of mustard flavoring. This is worth another try. Cletus (5056), Connecticut, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 20, 2004 Excellent dark blonde ale with some hints of mustard peaking through. I have a few more of these that I’m looking forward to savoring around the holidays. Definitely worth a try for anyone into blonde ales or spiced ales. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2004 Color is a lovely hazen murky orangy gold with a small fluffy froth of cream on top and the lacing is coated in smooth, silky fine sheeting.
Aroma is convincingly spicy and dry with a really nice, yet strangely appetizing bready, cracker thing. Reminds me of those vegetable crackers. Its not quite mustard smelling but does carry over somekind of lemony/oniony/pickle/cheesy characteristics.
Flavors are dry with a lemony twist and slight notions of mustard spice. Good bready malt backing thats dry and sweet and entertains some interesting finishing qualities where some cloying mixes with dry acidic sourness. Seemingly Golden ale like but yet not.
Feel is just shy of medium body with an overall dry character mixing with some sour acidic stuff, kinda like a golden ale and small amounts of lambic-like drops thrown in. Very interesting concoction, one to put on the must try list if you want something out of the ordinary. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 3, 2004 Sweet, spicy, fruity and musty notes to the aroma. Hazy orange-tan with thin white head that recedes to cover. Earthy sweet orange flavour is somewhat stale and musty. Lightly prickling carbonation but somewhat thin in the mouth. Bottle sampled with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 2, 2004 Biere de Garde and Various Oddments tasting, #13, with MartinT, Rastacouere and tiggmtl. Small bottle. Intriguing earthy nose, dull light orange color..a bit of mustard spiciness on the tongue, but really not terribly interesting; slightly artificial. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Nov 1, 2004 Strange yet bland aroma of earthy oranges and, maybe, in the distance, mustard...Medium carbonation suggests a few sweet fruit flavors but these are bothered by this watery death clinging on to them all of the way...Like cactus water, this can be refreshing I guess in hot temperatures, but one would need to be stranded and in trouble to revisit this desertic experience...
