Commercial Description:
Dunkel is of course a dark German-style wheat beer. The same yeast strain that is used to ferment our Weiss and Kristall Weiss, is employed here in order to produce the characteristic fruity and spicy flavors only with a more pronounced malt character.

Sample from a 12 oz bottle at the Mondial. Dark, mostly clear caramle color with minimal lasting head...brown sugar and a trace of malt discernible in the dull nose...just a touch of caramel, smoke in the body, no real yeast character, light rather sour finish...absolutely forgettable.

Caramel, bananas and an odd hint of cola in the nose. Clear, dark copper-brown with light ring of large-bubbled, off-white head. Caramel and banana flavours are short and dry with some herbal tones. Light body is watery in texture with moderate carbonation. Sampled at Mondial de la Bière 2005.

Hazy brown pour with big off-white head. Aroma is caramel malt, some dark fruit, hopcit, spice. Tastes caramel malty, with fruit, spice, and a slight tart hopcitric finish. I like this style, and this one is good.

Very nice cloudy brown body topped with a thick and lasting off-white head. Good yeasty aroma with spicy, sweet and fruity hints. Unfortunately, taste is not as strong and complex as the aroma is. It ends with an average bittersweet finish.
