Commercial Description:
Dunkel is of course a dark German-style wheat beer. The same yeast strain that is used to ferment our Weiss and Kristall Weiss, is employed here in order to produce the characteristic fruity and spicy flavors only with a more pronounced malt character.

This has a nice amber color and a good head. Has the same banana scent as their regular Weiss. The taste is sweet, with the banana flavor somewhat strong. It does get an occasional acidic bitterness not found in their normal Weiss. Feels too thick to me.

Bottled. Just right for the style.

While I agree with some of the other impressions here that this isn’t in the same league as the Weisse, it also seems to conform less to style than the excellent Tabernash Weiss. Drier and less sweet, super-long lip-smacking dryness, relative lack of toast and caramel...yep. But a beer of really fine quality. I would agree with Ringo; in the States there have to be only a handful of folks who make more authentic, reachable German brews.

Pretty good dunkel. A little less fruity and more of a drier finish than some other dark wheats.

Very good dunkel-weisse. Has a metallic/sour finish that is not displeasing. Tabernash makes my favorite American wheat beers.

Cloudy light copper colour with off-white head. Phenolic, sour flavour. Not as good as the Weiss.

Beautiful copper color and full wheat beer head. Some off-flavors detected here (phenol?), though the sample was fresh. But for the most part, lovely strawberry and banana with a nutty barley malt behind it. Need another sample to confirm impressions.

On tap, GABF 02: Good banana/clove thing, watery palate, Murky orange color. Ends abruptly and leaves you wanting more and feeling empty.
