Commercial Description:
Dunkel is of course a dark German-style wheat beer. The same yeast strain that is used to ferment our Weiss and Kristall Weiss, is employed here in order to produce the characteristic fruity and spicy flavors only with a more pronounced malt character.

Dark brown color, slightly cloudy, medium head. A medium bodied “dark wheat beer”. Fairly sweet roasted malts. Mild hops. Very definite banana and clove flavor yet balance a little bit by the dryness of the roasted malts. Nice balance. Good flavor. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is really interesting; it is slightly sweet with a lingering malt finish. Nice refreshing beer.

Cloudy brown. Head was moderately viable. Soft, tinny mouthfeel to start.

Surprised at the ratings. I found this to be very enjoyable. Watch out when you pour cause the head is quick to overtake the glass. A beautiful cloudy caramel color. A rocky head that sticks around a while. Very malty like a fine bock, but thirst quenching. I could drink the whole sixer. Wish it wasn’t quite so expensive. Not a monumental beer but I would recommend it to anyone who likes unfiltered wheat beers. A good fall beer for people who like hefes in the summer. Much better than your average American wheat whimp.

Head is initially large, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium brown, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of banana, toffee, and clove. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Like the helles weissbier, too sweet and banana-heavy, but good.

Although not a huge dunkel/wheat fan, this is one of the finer selections. Enjoyed every drop.

Ruby-amber color. Aroma is pleasant if not all that complex, some banana, cloves and chocolate. Mouthfeel is smooth and body is fuller than many German Dunkels, which I like. This one was a treat.

Beer 4998 Pours a dark ’Chill Hazed’ Amber, the head is frothy, large, beige and the lace in sheets upon the glass. Malt nose, hints of caramel, light hints of wheat grains. Front is sweet, the top is light, the finish is quite acidic, a tad dry, modest hop presence, but a good clean tasting beer. ranks #692 on my current 1000 beer master list.

Nose of banana and bubblegum and currants. Pours from the bottle a hazy ruddy red. The mostly lasting large rocky head is off-white with good lacing. The flavor is very sweet and nicely balanced from start to the average length finish. This brew does in fact taste like a combination of a Dunkel and a Weiss. The medium body is creamy and soft with a slightly alcoholic feel to the finish. I salute Tabernash for envisioning this nicely paired combination.
