bsierra (162), Vista, California, USA Jun 11, 2008 Updated: Jun 28, 2008 Bottle from Tailgate’s owner Wesley. Pours a beautiful golden/rust color, with a nice white head that sticks around for awhile. The nose exhibits a strong hops presence with citrus fruits and a small hint of maltyness. Flavor wise this is a very stand up IPA with a powerful assertive hops balanced very nicely with a malt backing, it also shows nice lacing. Finish is crisp and the hoppiness lingers nicely.
cazort (342), San Diego, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 (On tap) This beer was extremely typical for an IPA, in all the right ways, and in none of the wrong ones. It had a cold, refreshing taste. The hops were strong, just shy of being harsh, which I think is ideal. Citrus tones are dominant in the hop aroma, and I find this pleasant. Like other IPA’s that I am a fan of, this brew has some richness to the malt, but is not heavy. It leaves a bitter aftertaste in your mouth, but not too much of one, and it is still somewhat balanced. I like it. I think this is a good IPA and I would recommend it. As I try more and more IPA’s I realize how many of them are poorly executed. This IPA passes the test, and ranks among the truly well-designed IPA’s.
