Commercial Description:
Northern English Brown Ale

Tallgrass Ale is the flagship beer of Tallgrass Brewing Company, and we think it will be your new favorite beer! Truly a craft beer, the recipe was first brewed by Jeff as a 10 gallon batch of homebrew. Of all his homebrew recipes Jeff chose Tallgrass Ale as the flagship beer because of the beer’s surprising light body, extraordinarily smooth and balanced profile, great taste, and clean finish. The first time Jeff brewed Tallgrass Ale he thought it looked a little too dark, but after he kegged that first batch the finished beer was really, really tasty! That first little 10 gallon batch of Tallgrass Ale was gone way too fast!

Tallgrass Ale was different from anything he or his friends could find on tap or on the shelf. It was a beer that was a deep chestnut color, yet had a great flavor and was so light tasting that it kept you wanting more. The distinctive look and taste of Tallgrass Ale comes from our unique blend of German, English, and American-style malts and a generous helping of both American and traditional English hops. These ingredients, our English brewer’s yeast, and the Flint Hill’s excellent brewing water give Tallgrass Ale a distinctive, toffee-highlighted taste and smooth profile that is always drinkable.

This one came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel-brown color with a huge tan head. The aroma was nutty and fairly malty with an undertone of cocoa and cherries. The flavor was malty, bitter and toasty with light notes of ripe cherries, nut and caramel. The finish was long, tangy, bitter, nutty and a bit fruity. Medium body. Decent.

Bottle. Pours a large, frothy, off-white head. Lasting and lacy with a clear, rusty red-brown body. Some spicy hops in the nose along with caramel malt and light toast. Rich malt flavors - chocolate, fairly pronounced caramel & toffee, a touch of roast and...some smoked malt? Some nearly porter-like qualities in the malts. Medium-full body, somewhat sticky. Aggressive carbonation that adds a metallic, mineral edge to the beer that wears on my palate the further I get down in the glass. Really starting to detract from the beer. Began as a smooth, rich brown ale, but the carbonation really began to hurt the palate and the flavors for me.
