boboski (1095), USA Jan 2, 2007 Draft at TBBC. Dark brown pour with crimson highlights, good retention of the biege head, as with all beer brewed here. Light aroma of chocolate and caramel malt, even lighter hop aromas. Flavor is bready caramel, much more pronounced hop sting. Palate was thin and unexciting. Finishes rather subtly, with a lingering hop presence. Nothing special. eboats (824), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Mar 29, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. Big swing and a miss on this style. Poured dark amber with an off white head. Aroma had VERY slight chocolate and carmel hints. The flavor was just watery and weak. Enough flavor to say to myself, "Hey this is a dopplebock.", but not enough flavor to drink again. The finish had some slight hops. Tmoney99 (3503), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Mar 20, 2006 Draft at brewpub. Poured a brown color with a medium frothy light brown head that lasted. Toasted malt small alcohol aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Full roasted malt nutty flavor with a alcohol bite at the finish. Good brew with the food at pub. kreepindeth (405), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Mar 14, 2006 Updated: Nov 14, 2007Pours a dark red. Nose is thick and malty. I cannot say the same for the taste. Mouthfeel is rather thin for a doppelbock. This beer is also a bit overly hoppy for the style, with a bitter finish. Malt is not as present as one would expect. Still enjoyable, just not as a doppelbock. kseecs16 (513), Westmont, Illinois, USA Feb 20, 2006 Poured a dark reddish brown with little head and a subdued malty aroma. Very bitter uprfront for a doppelbock without the usual sweetness. Was somewhat watery in the mouth lacking the usual doppelbock richness. Drinkable, but pretty one dimensional with just a nutty bitterness. Not very impressive.
