ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Apr 24, 2007 Draught at brewpub. Not much aroma; some urinal cake aspect. Crystal clear gold. Small white ring. Some lace. A true Belgian Trippel doesn’t look like this. There should be much more head and the body shouldn’t be this clear. Pretty good flavor, actually. Shouldn’t be this good. No Belgian candi sugar character. Has the essence, just not the authenticity of a Belgian Trippel. Not bad. Needs more carbonation.
SoLan (1186), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2007 Draft at TBBC. Clear gold/bronze topped by 1cm of frothy, spongey, white foam. Floral, tropical aroma- trix or fruit loops cereal, jasmine, sugar, peaches, subtle alcohol, sauvignon blanc, fresh yet rich. Same flavors on a rich malt backbone, dry finish. Full body, balanced. Well done tripel. boboski (1095), USA Apr 27, 2007 Updated: May 6, 2007Draft at TBBC. Clear, light orange/golden body. Yellowish glow about this one. Nearly white head, thin and quickly receding to nothing. A gentle rouse regenerates a vibrant head that lasts a bit. Micro-spot lacing is sparse, unimpressive. Oranges, pineapples and tangerines come to light first in the aroma. Life Savers candy and big grains follow. Toastiness seems cohesive with the fruitiness and in proper quantity. Fresh and lively, though beginning to seem far from typical for the style. Yeasty character is reserved. Actually as really pleasing aroma, not overly sugary, rather pineapple and orange dominated. Flavor has a lovely pound cake malt component. Orange icing atop bready malts dance in my mouth. Yeast is more apparent, though it still seems a minor affect. Candy sugar is sweet but never cloying, fruity and complimentary. Pineapple and now apple round out a mildly sweet taste. Bitterness and acidity are almost in the negative range. Palate is lively, medium bodied and crisp. Finishes mildly dry, sweet sugars lingering. Moderate balance. A good effort. hopscotch (4460), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Apr 22, 2007 Draft... Clear yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. Sweet, pale malt aroma with tons of apple, apricot and peach esters. The flavor leans pretty far onto the sweet side of balance. Nice hop bite, but not enough to keep all the residual candy and malt sugar at bay. Full-bodied and creamy with medium carbonation. Sweet, astringent finish. Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2007 The aroma is bubblegum, candy sugar and berry laden sweets. Has a golden body with a diminishing white head. Again bubblegum and candy sugar in the first sip with some moderating grainy notes that prevent it feom getting over the top sweet. Mildly spicy, but more yeasty and hefeweizen like really, but with a massive blast of candy sugar. It’s pretty tasty though and I’d order it again as a starter as I tend to like having a sweeter beer be my first of a session.
