Well first off the brewery says its 8% ABV. Smells heavily of chocolate. I detest the nitrogen widgets, but in this instance it added a velvety creaminess to it. Taste was very chocolatey, as was the finish, slightly bitter. Definitely my favorite beer there. Also had it with a scoop of ice cream in it. Sweet jesus, faboo. I cant mention how much chocolate i found. Awesome stuff.

Cask. Pours a hazy dark brown with a two finger tan head that lasts and leaves great lacing. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, oats, and light toffee. Taste is the same as aroma with a mild but well balanced bitterness. Full creamy mouthfeel. One of the best beers brewed in Florida.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma was BIG coffee, rich sweet chocolate, and roasted notes all over. Flavor was a creamy milk chocolate with a coffee finish. Very smooth, it was the creamy mouthfeel that complimented the rich chocolate that made this one.

October 23rd 2005 re-rate. The thing about small brewpubs is the consistency fluctuates. I always thought the Iron Rat was average at best. Well I’ve had several of the latest batch the last few weeks and it is a LOT better than past samples. This batch is better balanced with a great chocolate malt and roastiness that pervades the whole taste range. The porter used to be my favorite here and I only started drinking the stout again because they said the Imperial wouldn’t go on until the stout ran out...so I wanted to do my part. Glad I did. This is an excellent batch. <P> Decent moutfeel and texture. Decent appearance and ok taste, but it just isn’t half the beer the TBBC Jack the Quaffer Porter is. Very one-dimensional stout whereas the porter moves you through a nice range of flavors.

I enjoyed this while in Ybor City a few years ago. This is my favorite stout with some caramel and chocolate flavors - great roasted full flavor. Not really as creamy as you would expect, but still a great beer.

Good coffee appearance, but little aroma. Very good coffee taste as well. Also had this on the cask, making it nice and smooth.
