Maybe it's just because I hadn't had a beer in a while, but the glass of Jack the Quaffer that I had was one of the best I've had in a loooong time. The appearance and aroma pretty good, but once you have a sip...that's when you realize that the palate and flavor are amazing! Very carbonated, not bitter at all, very smooth and enjoyable.

Originally reviewed back on 5/18/04. Received 4.25 score. Added to my RB list to check "Florida" as a beer state consumed. A treat to find at the Tampa Bay Brewing Co. while on vacation. Great aromas of roasty malts and some cocoa. Sturdy head of tan. Flavors give more roasty maltiness and cocoa along with a healthy dose of chocolate bar. Crisp hoppiness in the aftertaste.

On tap at the new brewpub. Poured Dark Brown with a medium brown head. Aroma was heavily roasted with chocolate and coffee. Flavor was a rich chocolate, coffee, and plenty of roasted goodness. Really good malty body. Outstanding porter.

Sampled at TBBC. Very dark brown in color with light ruby highlights at the bottom of the glass. Aroma: alot of chocolate as well as some roasty and lightly ashy black patent, hints of smoke, light citrus and floral hops. Taste is very roasty but not over the top, tons of chocolate, and a moderate amount of molasses. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy. FInishes with lingering chocolate/roast (black patent). This was probably my favorite beer of the day.

Sampled at the Tampa Lowry Park Zoo WaZoo Festival in August 2008. An excellent malty and chocolatey porter. Dark and robust.

Cask. Chocolate aroma. Flavour is chocolate w/ a little roast. The cask version is ridiculously smooth.

Wow, this was brutally good. Some tanginess, but on the whole very well balanced. Good carbo fizz, medium body. Lots of roast, dry, good hopping.

Ultra dark brown, thick tanned head. Nose on this one was all about chocolate, dark roasted coffee and cream, toasted brown sugar, with a slight vanilla bean tone hidden below. Flavor was similar, well balanced, yet nicely hopped on the backside to round it out. Medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, velvety, smooth roasted finish. Really nice session brew....
