Draft at brewery. 10.4% ABV. Pours reddish copper with thin off white ring of foam. I get almost no aroma. The flavor is malty sweet and sugary and maybe a touch of caramel. Above midway the caramel and the alcohol flavor meet and mix to create an almost medicine note that only grows worse as more beer is consumed. Overall this beer doesn’t work for me.

Draft at TBBC, 10oz snifter. Dark red pour with one finger head, hearty cobweb shaped lacing that had a neat three dimensional aspect. Aroma is citrus clashing with herbs, then copious malt takes command, followed by a medium sized PNW hop explosion. Flavor is hoppy up front, then sweet, sticky malt, just the opposite presentation of the aroma. Odd. Finish is sweet, then very dry, longstanding bitterness. Not balanced at all, but tasty.

Pours a deep ruby with no head. Aroma is alcoholic and sweet; this trend continues in the flavor with more alcohol and an assault of sweetness. Hops are there, but in a somewhat astringent way. Finishes warm and sticky sweet. Might be better on a cold winter’s night than an 80 degree Florida afternoon.

(On tap) Beautiful, clear amber with a creamy, off-white head. Alcoholic, caramelish nose. Full malty feel, full body with some caramel. Extremely alcoholic finish and a marked hoppiness that lacks some sophistication. 040406

On cask at the Brewpub. Dark amber hazy with a layer of film on top. Nice blend of aromas from hops, caramel notes and woody cask notes. Creamy body and lightly carbonated. Interesting flavor included vanilla, citrus, wood, malt and floral hops. Enjoyed nicely yet the Hogheaven I followed it with was even better.

On tap at the brewpub. After 3 strait gems this one just dissapointed. Poured orange with an off white head. Aroma was weak pine with some orange citrus hops. Real smooth with a 50/50 balance between malt and hops. The flavor was lightly citric (orange). Smooth and nothing like a barley wine should taste. Very little flavor or punch. Not the brewmasters forte I guess. Re-rate: Had on tap at new brewpub. Poured amber with a dirty white head. Aroma was sweet fruit, pears, hops, and bread. Flavor was sweet fruits and gummi bears. Medium body.

Not that impressed by this one. Pours a deep red. Taste is of bitter, harsh hops. Aftertaste stings on your tongue for a while afterwards. It’s very possible that I am just not a fan of barley wines.

Medium amber body with thin soft white head that rings and laces. Light aroma of hop. Medium flavor of malt, hop, grain. Smooth body.
