Commercial Description:
This is a traditional German wheat beer made using 60% German Wheat and 40% German Pilsner malt. The distinction is in the aroma and flavor clove / banana in the nose, slight sourness in the flavor. There are three versions of this weizen brewed yearly.

The aroma has all the wheat elements they are just subdued. The appearance is also wheat like with a small head. The flavor has plenty of wheat/malt and sourness but not much in the way of spice or banana. The palate is thin. I like it but it needs to be stronger and more hefeweizeny.

Couldn’t ttase the cloves, but this beer had a great head, which lasted for longer than I expected. I am not ahuge fan of Hefeweizen, but this one appealed to me.

Draft at brewery. Slightly hazy yellow color with thin white head. Nice aroma of banana, some light malt sweetness and bubble gum. The flavor starts kind of tart and becomes more and more sweet. There’s some malt sweetness that gives way to a sweet banana flavor. Near the finish I taste a lemony citrus hop note.

Draft at TBBC. A very attractive pour that yeilds a bright white, rather large head on top of the hazy yellow body. Good retention, nice lacing to boot. Aroma is surprising, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the smell of the hefeweizen here so much. Scents of fresh banana bread, tolerable clove, Bavarian yeast, sweet malts in moderation. Flavor is more of the same, with an emphasis on the lingering banana. Palate was pleasant and light bodied. Finished long, sweet and rich. Well done wheat.

Cloudy pale amber body topped with a puffy white head. It’s your run-of-the-mill interpretation of a German hefe, with loads of banana and clove in addition to some mild hoppiness and rich sweetness. Nothing special here if you’re not really into the style.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured cloudy yellow with a white head. Aroma was HUGE banana, malts, yeast, and some clove. Very powerful aroma. Flavor was banana bread and cloves. The yeast and malt combined with the banana made it taste like banana bread. Very good hefe.

A typical hefe. Smells like citrus fruit. Tastes citrusy and sour with a bannana-like after taste. Color is a pale, hazy yellow.
