JorisPPattyn (4500), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 24, 2008 Good head, creamy, over copper-chestnut beer. US hops, with some chestnut or nutflour malts’ balance. Quite sweet, again nutty - oxydized notes, but pleasing, malts; toffee apparent. Too sticky, too much restsugars to have a pleasing body and texture. If it’s a pre-Prohibition thing, I’m not even guessing about the style.
SuzyGreenberg (1043), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 30, 2008 12 oz. bottle - thanks to springslicker for the bonus bottle; clear copper and white head fades quickly; soapy aromas are sweet and fruity; light bodied and relatively flavorless; a little sweet too DrBayern (977), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Aug 21, 2008 Date: 08/21/08 12 oz. bottle
Aroma - Light grain, fruit, some distant flroal and spicy hops
Appearance - Large white head over a coppery gold our, some nice sticky lace, a vary attractive beer
Flavor - Caramel malt sweetness is quite persistent, although some hop bitterness begins to come through as it finishes, some sticky sweetness lingers.
Palate - Medium body and carbonation, smooth, some stickiness
Overall - Quaffable, even if it is a little sweet. Not the perfect pale ale, but even so, seems somewhat under-rated to me. SpringsLicker (1824), Tennessee, USA Aug 14, 2008 Clear gold with a tall, long lasting, off-white head.
Sweet malt dominates the aroma with floral hops in the back.
The flavor is sweet malt with some hop bitterness at the edges.
Easy to drink.
$5.99 at Kroger. kwoeltje (1222), Manchester, Missouri, USA Aug 5, 2008 (12 oz bottle) amber orange with off white head. Floral hops aroma. Flavor is slightly bready malt with a lovely pine hops finish. MaltDawg (369), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 30, 2008 Caramel and sweet malty aroma with hint of floral hops. Clear golden with a small white head. Flavor follows aroma closely. Medium body with a dry bitter finish. Rather over bitter, but this particular bottle may be a bit old.
