MartinT (4307), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 8, 2006 Any first impressions?
-A veil of foam shrouds the transparent dark brown.
-Coffee and sugary caramel evoke a coca-cola substitute.
-Brown rum and coffee-flavored coke are not what I want to think of when drinking a porter.
-The body is watery but not anemic, just lacking any substance.
What if you dig deeper?
-Sugar cane is soon perceptible in the nose.
-The fizziness of the carbonation got on my nerves.
-Why am I drinking this amateurish attempt again?
-This bad brewpub porter could pass for a brown ale (but a bad one). From what I see in my rating compatriots’ comments, this place seems to have gone downhill. The "For Sale by Owner" sign near the front door was but one of the numerous signs of it...
On tap at the brewpub. albert_007 (409), Penobsquis, New Brunswick, Canada Aug 14, 2005 Served in frosted glass at the brewpub. A little warming with my hands brought out the aromas more. Nice tan head with lasting lacing. Roasted coffee malt aroma with hints of hop bitterness. Flavor is roasted coffee malt with hints of the resiny hops. Finishes bitter & refreshing. beerbuzzmontreal (2697), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 10, 2005 Pours a brown color with ruby highlights and a thin light brown head. Intresting aroma of coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Decent flavor of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt with a bitter finish. The palate is light and dry with soft carbonation.
