alexanderj (2212), Chino Hills, California, USA Sep 23, 2009 On tap a few weeks back, at the Corona location. Color was a dark reddish brown. Aroma of caramel, fruit, smoked malt and yeast. Flavor was extremely nice. Smoke, sweet malt, fruit, alcohol with some earthiness in the finish. The flavor lingered for a while and the palate had some coating elements to it. Very nice beer. JohnC (2227), Mission Viejo, California, USA Jun 21, 2009 On tap at Brea, this poured dark brown with reddish hints. The flavor was roasty, malty with some peatiness. Very smooth for an 8% beer. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA Jun 13, 2009 Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Faint sweet caramel aroma. Malty caramel molasses and mild brown sugar taste. Hophead22 (1056), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 Very dark reddish color, just nice to look at. Nice malty aroma and flavor. Goes down smoothly for an 8%, could be dangerous. Good beer PuckLSHS (101), USA Mar 7, 2005 This beer was excellent. It had a great head and sophistication. The aroma did not wow me but the taste made up for a general lack of power from the initial sniff. It was just released this past week so I think it just might need a little time to grow. It was fairly sweet and had what I call a "medium sized headache bubble." Very good beer! One of Taps Best!! unclebleen (620), California, USA Apr 10, 2004 Updated: Apr 11, 2004I really enjoyed this beer. Poured a nice caramel burnt brown color with a nice white head that said drink me! Aroma is nice and sweet but not overly so...just the right amount of sweet and spice. The flavor is very good. A nice sweet smoothness paired with an earthy bitterness that really works for the style. Body is medium and pleasant. Really good beer. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Mar 20, 2004 Cask-Aroma was sweet, malty and candy-like. Amber color with a decent sized head and lacing. Nice crisp and clean. Way good.
