alexanderj (1404), San Diego, California, USA Sep 21, 2008 ON cask at Taps; I am surprised all these beers don’t have more ratings. Color was pretty nice; a darkish, red tinted brown. Aroma of caramel, oats, vanilla, lactic sweetness, wood and cocoa. Flavor had a good amount of sweetness, oats, caramel, cocoa and vanilla. Not too strong of roasted presnce. Good for the style.

goldtwins (3747), Nesconset, New York, USA Feb 8, 2007 Poured a lightly hazed black color with a very tan head. The aroma had mild notes of ash and roast with a hint of chocolate. The flavor was of roasted malt and mild cola notes. Fruity toward the back and a dry finish. JohnC (1777), Mission Viejo, California, USA Nov 9, 2006 I had this on draft at Taps’ brewpub.
It pours jet black with a thin tan head. The flavor is dry, roasty with hints of oats. Very smooth and tasty. chargerfanjess (116), San Diego, California, USA Apr 5, 2006 Finished off the brunch with this one. Very dark almost jet black with nice tan head. Very smooth slight oat flavor but probably got that from name. Nice roasted flavor and no bitterness and no hops...not that its a good thing that there were no hops but made it real easy to drink for brunch. Could be because I had this after an IPA and a ESB...I’ll be back to this joint!
