Commercial Description:
Our newest product, Taps Red Cream Ale is beginning to rival our Premium Lager in popularity with our customers. It is a delicious, full-bodies ale with a clear, beautiful red colour. Cream ale is made by using ale yeast fermented and conditioned at colder temperatures. The colder temperature causes a slower, more gradual fermentation, resulting in a smoother flavour. Our Red Cream Ale has a full-bodies silky texture that is crisp and strong in flavour, with a fresh, clean finish.

Draught @ Winking Judge. Clear, red, with small white head. Blackberry, tobacco, and cherries in the nose. Weird cherry pit bitterness at the end. Strange but drinkable.

[206-20070215] 473mL. Doughy yeasty under-baked bread aroma with grassy earth undertones and a hint of animal qualities. Clear, brown red body with fast-rising small bubbles and a medium-lasting light tan foamy head. Flavour continues under-bakedness of bread, less grassy and more lemon in the aftertaste. Medium body with both a smooth and sour pucker feel. Comes together but it’s an odd combination.

Bottle shared with and courtesy of Jerc, bought directly from the brewery a few weeks ago. Looks great - dark amber, orange glow, creamy still orange/white head. Sweet yet sour aroma - I’ve smelled this before, it is the smell of every average Ontario cream ale. Yeck. Sweet and sour taste - very astringent - something went wrong here, as there is a good hint of caramel in the body that totally gets covered up but an odd tang. This tang didn’t seem like an off tang, it was more like every average Ontario cream ale tang, and that is massively disappointing, as I head this wasn’t bad and I thought Ontario micro’s were moving past this stage. Yet this tells me many are still here; I’ll do everything I can to promote and encourage people to drink good Ontario micro’s, and that includes telling them to avoid this. Update - I had this again on tap at the White Oaks Spa and Resort outside St. Catharines and my rating does not change - it was just as disappointing on tap as it was from the bottle.

Bottle sample at Golden Tap Awards. Nice reddish-orange with a small pinkish head. Aroma of malt and raisins, with a hint of chocolate, and a faint sour tinge. Flavour starts with soft malt notes, a slightly sour fruitiness, and has a dry, light bitterness in the finish. I got those same odd sour notes from their Lager - I guess it’s from their yeast? - and like the Lager, this is an OK but not great beer.

Can: Poured a medium amber color ale with a great white bubbly head with average retention. Aroma of light malt with some hints of sweetness. Taste is also comprised of semi-sweet malt with no hops discernable. Body is lightly creamy but overall this beer is really lacking in character.

Can. Pours a dark copper body with a medium-sized creamy white head. Caramel and bread are predominant in the aroma. Sour fruit composition with strange spice and bread malts. Finishes with more of that sour fruit. Not that I was expecting more from a cream ale but I was sort of expecting something different than this. Mediocre.

Orange/bronze in colour, very small white coloured head, very patchy light lacing. The aroma is very appley, quite sweet, some sourness. The flavour is fruity, lightly floral, some grains, high sweetness. Sweet mouthfeel, light body, medium/light carbonation. Fiishes sweet, lingering, late dryness.

Words can’t describe how boring this beer is.

473ml can from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario.
Opened on December 21, 2007.
No date.
